Excellent value for money, good quiet location, not sea-front but very close to all beaches, shops and restaurants, big room with an huge balcony (we had the top floor, probably one of the largest). OK kitchen appliances, all necessary stuff available if not the most modern. Good AC. Friendly forthcoming host.

If you want a lively tourist resort then this will be too quiet but for us it was nice to be with locals, fewer tourists and sample real Greece. This also means it was better value when eating out . The beach was nice, well equipped with beds and umbrellas, again at low cost. Lots of cafes and restaurants along the sea front. Beach never too crowded. The only down side is possibly that there is more things to visit in north Crete so it was a longer drive to go sight seeing .You will need a car to get about .

It is a nice village with many accommodation options also in the surrounding olive groves. We hade a phantastic view over the valley and the mountains to the south. it is a great area to stay in, for all kinds of interests, but probably not nightlife.. Not far to anywhere, lovely scenery. People very friendly like everewhere in Crete and good food in tavernas.

Kamilari is hilly village with a lovely charm including restaurants, bars, shops and art galleries. There are quite some villas and bed&breakfast style housing so I wouldn't consider it a typical cretan village, without the tourist the village would be quite different. The advantage is the proximity to Matala and Como bechaes where you'll find the nicest sunsets of southern Crete as it's the only ones that are west (Kalamaki beach & red beach as well). Also you have access to Timbaki and Mires where you'll find shopping opportunities as well as weekly markets from which I prefer the one in Timbaki. Kamilari has a nice view on the impressive Ida mountain range as well as the Asterousia mountains.

During our holiday in Crete we stayed in 5 different places, but I enjoyed Kamilari the best. I would not recommed for those who are interested in a vibrant night life, but who are looking for a charming town with kind people and with excellent tavernas this town is a perfect choice. With car you can reach the beaches within 10-15 minutes (e.g. Matala) and Heraklion is within an hour.

A lovely apartment, a short walk from the centre of the village of Kamilari with magnificent views. The lady owner has a wonderfully luxuriant style. There a little points of interest all over the three rooms. And lots of welcoming gifts for guests.
