This is a fantastic place for total peace. It is outside the village a few kilometers and there are no direct neighbors.
The beach is in front of the hotel just a few steps to walk and there is a pool between the houses of the hotel.
There are shops at 10 km and 25 km away for big markets. Markos and wife were very friendly and always helpful.
I spent one month and I was not the only one.

Hotel Sofia is in a quiet area of Matala, yet close to the center and its shops, bars and restaurants. It is just 164 feet away from the sandy beach and 20 minutes from the famous Red beach.

Nice hotel, large family room that had plenty of room for our family of 4. Nice pool and good breakfast included. Lots of parking. Not far from Matala Beach, about 15 minutes to walk down. Staff were very pleasant.

Very nice , clean apartment, just a few hundred meters away from the beach. Far enought to be nice and quiet , close enough to go by feet.
Recently renovated, Very nice shower and had everything we might need.
This place needs to get it's act together. There is rubbish everywhere. The roads are very rough. The roadsides all look like a land slide has just occurred. The whole area has great potential but some one needs to get going to improve the surroundings.

Despite the bunkering station just off shore, it's the perfect beach for families. Be aware though that it is fairly remote with not much in the way of amenities. If you want to get away from the crowds this is a great place.

This is a small place, overlooking an oil processing plant, so ships come and go. There are a couple of tavernas on the beach and one on the road. It is difficult to get to (take the main road unless you have a 4x4 car) and little to do when there, aside from the beach, which is black shingle. The water is very clear, with very few waves, so potentially good for snorkling.
