What can i say... Agia Roumeli is just an unreal place to visit. It is inundated with people arriving from walking down the Samaria gorge in the afternoon but when the ferry leaves at about 5.30, it is just so nice and quiet. There are numerous restaurants, some with fab sea views. Couple of lovely supermarkets and people are so friendly.
The apartment is fabbb.... very spacious and the host is so helpful and friendly. Views to the sea and mountains behind. Very clean and comfortable, basic facilities for cooking, but so many restaurants for greek food... why would you cook... love this place
Calypso Hotel is located just 20 metres from the beach, in Agia Roumeli village. It features rooms with air conditioning and a furnished balcony with Libyan Sea views.

I am unable to say as I got a message a couple of hours before check in saying that they had cancelled my reservation due to problems. Nothing else and no help in finding other accommodation. There was nothing else available in Sougia so I had to stay elsewhere. I know things happen but a bit more information or support would have been good.

Such a perfect spot, with a view of the mountains, surrounded by flocks of sheep with bells clanging, close to the start of the Samaria Gorge hike. The mist covering the valley early morning was a sight to behold. The cottage has everything you need, with lots of seating outside to enjoy the peace and quiet.
The hosts were very responsive and welcoming and left lots of goodies to enjoy.

Unlike the north of the Crete coats, which is way too touristic, Agia Rouméli, was one of our favorite places to visit in Crete. Remote, with no roads. Only accessible by foot (8h tracking path) or Ferry.
We rented a car and drove until Sougia (also a very nice village), and took the Ferry until Agia Rouméli. We were supposed to stay 1 night, but ended up booking 1 extra night, where we stayed in a room with a beatiful ocean view.
It was the place where we have eaten the best food. Eveything is fresh, and the locals are friendly. It's a very quite place. Perfect to relax!

Great hotel, the Samaria, restaurant with views to the sea and mountains. Great place to stay for hikers, snorkelers, boat trips and people that want to relax. Agia Roumeli is easy to get around, but for more adventurous people you have the Samaria Gorge to test your walking stamina.

Don't bypass this place after Samaria, plan to spend 1-2 nights here to walk the fantastic E4 to Agios Pavlos or simply to enjoy Agia Roumeli without all the tourists that are only there from 1-5pm. The beach both inside the village and the ones to the east are easily reachable by foot, while to the immediate west you don't want to miss Kalogeros (Monk) beach that requires a small boat trip or sup/canoe. The abandoned castle on top of the hill is challenging but the view is outstanding in all directions.

Nice, quiet village with friendly people and good food facilities. Ideal vacation place with small children. Sea, walking part of Samaria Gorge (from Agia Roumeli to Samaria village and back is durable with children, just take something to eat and drink with you - there are no selling points there). You can also take a walk to Agios Pavlos or (if not afraid of climbing) take a route to the medieval castle ruines ( take less steap route, partly going through a forest - less dangerous and not so hot).
During long stay we tried more than 5 restaurants and liked Faragi and Paralia the most: good meals, friendly owners; we felt almost at home at those places.

Agia Roumeli is a small village, which mainly accommodates those who visit the Samaria Gorge. Access is either by foot from the gorge or by boat from other parts of Sfakia region.
It is definitely recommended to stay in Agia Roumeli after visiting the Gorge, as it is a quite demanding hike and some time to rest and relax is much needed.
Lots of nice restaurants and cafes to choose from. People are warm and welcoming, and the Agia Roumeli beach is also lovely.

In May, after ferries leave, a very sleepy, romantic place to be in. Next day, while travellers from Samaria arrive, a bit crowdy village :-) The atmosphere is very nice, great to experience, a great spot to stay after your Samaria walk and maybe even a bit longer!

Really lovely taverna at the far end of the beach at Agia Roumeli. The hosts were very welcoming and friendly and it was a great place to stay. The beach was literally only a few steps away and they provided free sunbeds and umbrellas. We had breakfast there one morning which was very nice. The balcony was an excellent place for getting our things dry.
We spent a night a Tarra after the Samaria Gorge treck. which was a great idea. We had Dinner with local food at Tarra on the beautiful terrace with a great view. The room was clean, comfortable and quiet with a small balcony with sea view. Thank you Andreas for the great food and service !
Giannis was so nice. He runs the shop downstairs and everytime we came and went he always said hi and checked that everything was ok. Room was great with a nice little balcony and a fridge. Small but with everything we needed. Plus Agia Roumeli is a great place to stay.
We got stranded in Agia Roumeli after the Samaria hike. The room was fine for hikers, whether before or after walks. The staff was lovely and helpful. We chose it not expecting luxiouries
