The room and the bathroom were cozy and really clean, the location walking distance to the castle. They have a lovely garden to relax. Good price as well. There's a lot to see in the fortress although it has been quite heavily restored with some totally new buildings. Nothing else in Akhaltsikhe itself but it's a good base for Varzia cave city and Sapara Monastery - always best to arrive early everywhere and you often have the place to yourself (not Varzia, too popular). Beautiful scenery on both trips. (If you have a car that needs washing before returning to the car hire, there's an excellent car wash on the Varzia road.)

Castle is amazing!Worth of visiting for sure!One of the Georgian highlights!You can set the base here,and go around a bit,to such a place as Vardzia and so,and to go straight to Batumi from there (just be aware of the snow-covered pass during the winter/early spring time, not available by regular car).

We made a last minute change to our travel plans to come to Akhaltsikhe for 1 night. 1 night us definitely not enough, 2 nights would have been better to fit in a a slow paced tour of vardzia (2-3 hours recommended, plus 2 hours total driving time). Give plenty of time to have a full tour of the fortress.
The town is very cute, and cool experience

One afternoon and one day were long enough to see the castle and go on a basic tour of the area. With two days more I would have gone to see the various churches and synagogues in town and taken the time for a hike in the surrounding mountains.

Very impressive fortress/castle of IX century, rebuilt in XII century. However, in my opinion, some parts of the reconstruction of 2012 doesn't fit well with old structures and makes to desire much more. Overall, it is worth to visit it.
But, if you are in Akhaltsikhe, you are simply OBLIGUED to visit Vardzia caves (1 hour away). It will leave you astonished!!!
And also Saro megaliths and ruins of 2nd millennium BC (45 min away)...
And much more...

A very interesting place.
A very interesting place. Rabati was fantastic, there are many other beautiful fortresses, churches, monasteries around. The nature was beautiful. Only about 62 km from Vardzia - a must see in Georgia.
We had a great stay at the guesthouse. Svetlana is a wonderful host and did everything to make us feel at home. She gave us a free upgrade to the nicest room, gave us homemade wine, got our laundry done, and adapted the breakfast to our preferences (vegan). The location of the guesthouse is also perfect, very central in Akhaltsikhe and right across Rabati castle. Even though Svetlana had some busy days, she always had time to sit and have a nice chat with us. The room was very nice and spacious and the garden is lovely too.
Location is quiet and the area of the hotel is big - you can find here a wine cellar, bar, restraunt, pool( under construction ), garden and a fireplace. All people who works at the chalet are really great - once you arrive you will be met with wine and stories about the place. Breakfast is awesome and if you need anything you can easily ask for help anytime.
The host and her partner were really amazone! They were super nice and welcoming and thankfull. This made our stay even better. The hotel is very close to the Castle and is located in a central location. We slept really great and enjoyed every second of our stay because of the warm and welcoming hosts. See you the next time when we're back!
The hotel is right next to the Akhaltsikhe fortress. The owner who welcomed us is super friendly even if she doesn't speak English (but we managed with the translator on the phone). It's not a new structure but it's well kept, clean and the breakfast is super.
