Macdonald Bear Hotel, hotel in Woodstock

In picturesque Woodstock, just 20 minutes’ drive from Oxford centre, Macdonald Bear Hotel offers a restaurant. Set in a 13th-century inn, the rooms have period features.

Very little and my note below provides sufficient information for your company to investigate further if you have the desire to found out why the Bear Hotel in my view is extremely poor value for money.

Lovely place to wander, very middle England, very picturesque. Not many shops, plenty of places to eat, or have a drink outside one of the many hotels & bars people watching. Very close to Blenheim Palace, leave your car and walk through the park

We enjoyed walking around Woodstock as well as visiting Blenheim Palace and park. The Star Inn pub was a favourite for a pint of beer as well as a couple of meals. Public transit from Oxford and to Chipping Norton is very easy.

A beautiful country town with quaint shops and a good selection of restaurants. We visited the Soldiers of Oxfordshire Museum for family reasons and found it very interesting with pleasant and friendly staff. The cafe within the grounds of the Museum is excellent. We ate at the Punchbowl Inn both evenings and enjoyed our meals there very much. The staff were very friendly and helpful, would definitely recommend - not cheap but worth the money. We also visited Blenheim, not the Palace but the park and gardens, just glorious!

A pleasant market town with pretty buildings, a range of shops including antiques. art and interior designs, as well as a butchers, a co-op and several pubs, restaurants and cafes. There were also 2 small museums. Blenheim Palace was only a 10 minute walk from Woodstock. We spent 2 days visiting the Palace and its grounds, and felt we could have spent longer. There was a frequent bus service into Oxford. Buses ran every half hour from about 5.30am to 11.30pm, cost £2, and the journey took about 40 minutes. We spent 2 days visiting Oxford and felt we could have spent longer. The only downside about Woodstock was car parking, which was restricted to pay and display between 8.00am and 6.00pm every day. There was a free car park near the fire station which allowed upto 12 hours stay in any 24 hour period. For longer stays, 24 hour car parking permits could be purchased from the Council for £10 per day.

    Beautiful small town.

Beautiful small town. Plentiful accommodation and restaurants, most of which were dog friendly. Ideal for visiting beautiful Blenheim Palace and nearby Oxford. We ate at Punchbowl pub , good friendly service, very dog friendly, food and drink good. Would not stay at Macdonald Bear next time but probably at one of the many pubs that had rooms.

This hotel is right in the centre of beautiful Woodstock with plenty of free overnight parking just outside the door. Rooms are spacious and extremely comfortable. Breakfast was deliciously made with all local produce and plenty of choice. Staff were very welcoming and all in all it was a perfect little break away from it all. Oxford can easily be reached by park and ride service and Blenheim palace, with its beautiful grounds and interesting history, is a short walk away. We will definitely return.
