The room itself was a bit basic, but the staff were kind and helpful and the pub setting was pretty wonderful. Breakfast was great. It was also very quiet; I heard no noise from the pub.

Anthony was a great host. He met us at the gate & helped us up to the Shepherds Hut with our bags (which was up a hill, but perfectly manageable)
The Shepherds Hut was gorgeous. Very clean & comfortable & Anthony had been thoughtful enough to provide milk, cereal & a bottle of the local wine (which was delicious)
We loved the views & the fire pit, which again, Anthony has kindly left us 2 bags of logs + coal to cook with.
Without any doubt, we will return - 100% recommend.
PS: Helpful advice to anyone staying, might be worth taking a torch as walking back up to the Hut in the evening, was quite dark (we used our phone torch, which worked ok though)

My wife and I stayed at this family-run hotel for two nights (Friday and Saturday nights). We enjoyed a very generous and tasty breakfast. All the staff we met, on Reception and in the Restaurant, were very friendly. Despite the fact that the hotel is located in the centre of the town and that music is played in the ground floor bar till midnight on Friday and Saturday nights our room was very quiet. The free Wi-Fi worked very well.
South Woodham Ferrers is very well placed to explore the countryside, the City of Southend-on-Sea and towns and villages nearby.

I visited as I was visiting family - Woodham Ferrers has lots of facilities - such as park (for walking the dog) -Manor farm for children's activities (brilliant - mainly all outside); leisure centre with swimming pool (not particularly big) and a very compact but with variety shopping centre.
This is a family area and does not support luxury/designer shops
Woodham Ferrers has good access to major road links and a train station to London.
The Indian restaurant in South Woodham Ferrers was excellent and very good value for money

I visited on a whim, just to get out of London.
I visited on a whim, just to get out of London. Compared to other places I've visited in the country this year, this has to be the best in lacking any soul and social interaction. As I was walking and no signs were present on the main roads, why do you need to follow the bike routes to get to the railway station? Why didn't anyone know where the station was? Also, there are some old radar stations on the hill. Yet again no signs as to how to get there and once there, no history about the place. This also was the case along the river. No signs. If there's anyone who comes out with flying colour during the trip, the prize goes to the the bus drivers of Essex. These were the only people who could put a sentence together.

The hotel was clean and well-maintained, providing a comfortable stay for my family and friends. The kids especially loved the bunk beds and appreciated the fans, which were perfect for the hot weather. The inclusion of an English breakfast in the price was a nice touch, particularly for my friends who were visiting the UK for the first time and found it to be an enjoyable experience.
The bedroom was spotless as were the surrounds . Although there was loud music until late we were not disturbed.
The breakfast was good and served quickly . A superb value for money . We would definitely stay again and recommend the hotel as being excellent value for money.
The hotel is in the middle of so many places where you want to go, Only up to 10 minutes ie shopping, loads of restaurants, cafe, library, sport centre etc
