The question as put means our answer is rather misleading.
The question as put means our answer is rather misleading. We did not have time to explore Winchelsea as we would have liked, but spent much of our time in Rye, a quarter-hour drive away and with enough to keep us busy ind interested for two days. We only scratched the surface of the possibilities of the wider area. In Rye, park as soon as you can in any of the car-parks at the foot of the hill and walk. There is masses to see, but the one-way system within the town can be a nightmare to the unwary.

Winchelsea beach is a remote and beautiful coastline, perfect for November stormy weather. 20 mins away from Rye nature reserve and Petts Level cliffs.
This is not in Winchelsea itself, but Winchelsea beach.

Beautiful, peaceful, historic town with strong local community feel, excellent to combine with exploring the rest of the area (Rye, Dungeness etc). Lovely place to spend a few hours walking around, enjoying the view over the surrounding countryside.
Schedule visit with a date the cellar tours are on- we only found out about these after we visited!

Large room with space for 2 comfortable chairs and a large TV. Well stocked tea and coffee with large mugs. Nice bar and restaurant. Plenty of parking. A lovely walk directly behind the hotel into the amazing Winchelsea.
Spotlessly clean, comfy bed, extra heating available but not needed as the Annexe was really warm even on a miserable rainy day.
Right on the 1066 path we went a lovely walk to Winchelsea in a sunshine !!
A really cosy and warm retreat within a stones throw from Winchelsea beach and Rye Harbour. A lovely place to stay with great hospitality - a sense of old magic.
