Stunning village with lovely views and really interesting history. Great pub, shop and cafe, all staff super friendly. Beautiful countryside walks and cycling. Close to Rye and Camber Sands. The miniature railway from Romney to Dungeness is worth a ride.

The question as put means our answer is rather misleading.

The question as put means our answer is rather misleading. We did not have time to explore Winchelsea as we would have liked, but spent much of our time in Rye, a quarter-hour drive away and with enough to keep us busy ind interested for two days. We only scratched the surface of the possibilities of the wider area. In Rye, park as soon as you can in any of the car-parks at the foot of the hill and walk. There is masses to see, but the one-way system within the town can be a nightmare to the unwary.

Winchelsea beach is a remote and beautiful coastline, perfect for November stormy weather. 20 mins away from Rye nature reserve and Petts Level cliffs. This is not in Winchelsea itself, but Winchelsea beach.

Beautiful, peaceful, historic town with strong local community feel, excellent to combine with exploring the rest of the area (Rye, Dungeness etc). Lovely place to spend a few hours walking around, enjoying the view over the surrounding countryside. Schedule visit with a date the cellar tours are on- we only found out about these after we visited!

This was our first visit to Winchelsea and Rye to celebrate our golden anniversary and my birthday. The house and garden are lovely. We had a very warm welcome and Alex gave us a delicious bottle of fizz to celebrate which we sipped in the garden! The house is very well positioned. The bus takes less than 10 minutes to Rye with a bus stop right outside and another round the corner (check you have the right stop as we nearly missed our bus). Kelly served us a delicious breakfast cooked by Alex.

A lovely hidden gem! Our room was clean, a good size and everything we needed. I thought the food was going to be a bit pricy, so we ate in Hastings before checking in, that was a mistake! When I checked the menu the prizes were very good and the meals I saw looked amazing. Lovely bar with friendly staff. The buffet breakfast was outstanding. We will definitely stay again and eat at the hotel.

Winchelsea is a beautiful small town with many lovely buildings. It looks idyllic. The church is the central focus of the town and is a must to visit. It is a stones throw from Rye and the nature reserve. There is a glorious walk from the house along the Military Canal to the sea and various paths around the Pett level.
