Bel & The Dragon at The Red Lion is a historic grade II-listed coaching inn with stunning features dating back to 1669 and possibly even earlier in origin; much of the original building still stands.

Big car park across the road, pub with lovely restaurant below where we had a Sunday dinner. Room was big, clean and comfortable and we couldn’t hear any road noise or restaurant noise which I found surprising. Key fob system for rooms so people can’t wonder up by mistake. Central heating so we turned the radiators on when we got there and room warmed up very quickly

Wendover is a pretty village at the foot of the Chilterns,...
Wendover is a pretty village at the foot of the Chilterns, with plenty of historic buildings and a few pleasant streets to wander, with lots of walks and eg National Trust properties not too far away. There are some small, independent shops, a couple of supermarkets, 6-7 pubs, a cheese and wine shop, and a handful of restaurants. There's also a chocolatier, and the Wendover Arm of the Grand Union canal has a nice footpath alongside, and information boards. Spice Garden Indian restaurant was particularly good, and the Cheese and Wine establishment would have been an ideal stop if it hadn't been too cold to sit outside. We ventured into five of the pubs during our stay, and they were all friendly and welcoming, with good ales. The Red Lion (Bel & the Dragon) had very good house wine too.

Wendover looked really fresh and welcoming.
Wendover looked really fresh and welcoming. Better than when I was there before the pandemic.
Amazing Thai restaurant at the George and Dragon. The waitress remembered, to the letter and person, the order from 8 people and the food was fab.

Wendover is a very picturesque small town with lots of good restaurants and pubs to choose from. The Ridgeway Path goes through Wendover and this stretch of the path is very beautiful in that it traverses through some varied woodlands. It is also a great base for visiting other places of interest, such as the Natural History Museum in Tring.

The staff without exception come across like a team who really enjoy their jobs and enjoy working with each other. It was very refreshing to see this in a hospitality business and reminded me how people make a hotel stay worth the money.
Delicious breakfast, excellent and quirky rooms with nice welcoming touches and a genuinely welcoming attitude to dog owners with an honest charge for the stay.
Excellent stay. Beautiful room very clean and comfortable. Large bathroom spotless clean. Had everything you could need. Small fridge for drinks in room.
Breakfast was brilliant nothing too much trouble.
Owner very helpful with information on the area. Short walk into wendover with its many cafe pubs and independent shops
Would definitely stay again if in the area.
Interesting house designed so that no heating is needed and air is filtered to remove particulate pollutants. Good sized room tastefully decorated and furnished without fussy stuff. Friendly and informative host. Homemade jam and marmelade. Handy for Ridgeway National Trail. Easy walking distance to lots of restaurants in lively centre of Wendover.
