Breakfast was delicious and Julia was very kind and helpful. Beautiful old building in a quiet side street but within walking distance of the town center. We had a spacious family room which worked well for us and our three young children. We really enjoyed our stay!

Message regarding where property was located was only sent at 2:55 when we were due to check in at 3pm. Once we had these access was straight forward. However we did not have phone access until about 3.30 so went to funeral directors next door! They had no idea where property was.
Original instructions postcode sent us to the funeral directors at the back of the property!!

I just love the historic buildings in Totnes and always find myself visiting Totnes when in the UK. It's always enchanting to go back in time and wonderful that the English heritage is preserved.
We met up with my cousin and his wife for lunch on my birthday in the town and had a delicious tea & cake before that at a church it was a wonderful place.

Totnes is lovely if you enjoy popping into lots of little shops and cafes. The weekend markets are always worth a visit. If you prefer quieter days, there’s lots of local towns to travel too with quaint tea rooms and castles! If you’re a beach goer, Paignton is about 20th minutes or lots of other lovely bleachers around 30 minutes drive.

Totnes is an interesting town, with good, slightly vegetarian-type food,
altho' you can get some variations i.e.fish or Eastern food. It has a variety of shops, coffee houses and restaurants, some of which are good. The gentleman who runs the museum was a mine of information on what to do/where to eat etc. and the Asia restaurant in the main street serves genuine Thai food. The Tally Ho in Hempston is also good for the evenings.
I would avoid the Great Grubb.
Parking is difficult and the meters need 'feeding' from 8a.m. and do not take notes or cards. So change is needed.
The grounds are wonderful with walks and quite a few things to see in the area. There is a bus to Totnes town which is reliable but not frequent but it does stop at Dartington Hall. They have a lovely cinema in a converted barn. Real treat to see a film there. Nice pub/restaurant on site which had friendly staff. There is a gift shop on site which is also nice (friendly staff member there) and if you stay overnight you get a discount in the shop, pub and cinema. I wish all hotels did that.
Lovely start to the day with a full English, quality meats. Very friendly hosts Sue and Grahame, and the locals. Comfortable bed, kettle in the room with a fridge, teas/coffee/chocolate and a full pint of milk, not those little plastic thimbles you get in most hotels - loved this. Spacious clean bathroom. Good dining, and if you are an ale lover, they keep a good cellar, on sale my husband would thoroughly recommend Taylors Landlord, Jail ale and Shipyard.
The hotel is in a fantastic location formerly owned by the chef Keith Floyd. The staff were very welcoming and the food especially the Sunday roast was superb. The breakfast was fantastic. Excellent polite service. We had a budget room but it was clean and comfortable. And the cost? £65 B&B. Compare that with another waterfront hotel we stayed at in Totnes- £160 for the night and very mediocre breakfast for £15 each!!
Lovely location. So much better than a hotel. Quiet at night and only 15 minutes from Totnes, pretty much a straight shot too. Beds were so comfy, great tele, well equipped kitchen, and the third floor bedroom with it’s ensuite is just luxurious. We are coming back.
The accommodation is well suited for a couple well presented. Great layout and good use of the space, views from the balcony are great. Everywhere is clean tidy and well equipped we all you need. Nice and local to totnes. Would recommend booking here 👌
