Tewkesbury well combines the ancient & modern.

Tewkesbury well combines the ancient & modern. A bustling high street next to older buildings with fascinating history. The Abbey is worth visiting - as is the Museum. And the Cross House Tavern has a snug couple of rooms with fantastic beer. Further afield is Malvern Priory, not to be missed (if you're into that sort of thing !), along with walking on the Malvern Hills.

I can't comment about the Abbey as we didn't visit it but we did wander into the main shopping area on our stay. There is a good variety of shops (we often love going to charity shops and there are a lot, although maybe the quality of clothes wasn't as impressive as some places as I try and avoid man-made fabrics). We had an evening meal at Rosado Lounge which had an interesting, varied menu - the food was delicious and the atmosphere reminded me of visits to Italy where families were made welcome (ie it's a bit "noisy" but in a good way!) We did walk to the riverside and noticed that the recent storms must have created some flooding as the Riverside cafe there was closed (permanently?) and there was a lot of mud distributed quite a way from the river. Looks like it would be nice for walks in the summer around there though. Tewkesbury is very easy to get to from the M5, just one road, and the old buildings give it a lovely "British" quaint feel.

We used Tewksbury as a base to explore other towns in the area. Once we arrive at our hotel we park the car and use the local bus service which is excellent from Tewksbury, We went by bus to Cheltenham . You can get to many other destinations within The Cotswolds from Cheltenham by bus and that is what we did. Tewksbury itself is a small market town with many restaurants, pubs and tea houses. The river Avon was swollen when we arrived and so we could not walk alongside the river but I am sure that in better weather it would be a lovely way to spend a couple of hours.

Great location base to explore the region.

Great location base to explore the region. Parking was sometimes a squeeze but it was part of the proof of the popularity of the Bell hotel. Good choice of coffee bars and a further visit to a previously used Italian restaurant did not disappoint. Good walks by the river and a visit to the Abbey is a must. I’m

The hotel is directly opposite Tewkesbury Abbey and at the top end of the high street so pretty much everything in the town can be accessed by foot, including several excellent restaurants and bars. The staff were friendly and the breakfast was very good. The bar has a good selection of beers and has a good atmosphere with a terrace outside. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was more than acceptable. Good value for money.

Friendly, welcoming, the building is steeped in history. Central town centre location. Very convenient for the stunning Tewkesbury Abbey, located across the road. Quick and efficient check-in. Free parking nearby comes with the room. Usual great Wetherspoon value on food and drink. What’s not to like?
