First time visitor to Taunton was impressed.

First time visitor to Taunton was impressed. It does help when the sun shines. We found it clean nice parks and lots of coffee shops and places to browse. Like everywhere some of the 70s buildings didnt fit and also slightly shabby coming into town. Restaurant choice really good we ate at Papas Taste and Wildwood both fab. Highlights Somerset CCC and the Museum of Somerset both free.

Nice quiet town with a lot of history and places to explore. Not much from shopping point of view, same old cloning of shopping outlets, large tescos, asdas and sainsburys. It does offer a dated cinema and though it is fun to watch a movie there but new modern cinemas and better sound systems are the order of the day.

The shopping centres are very good, there are many nice places to eat , although we did find it more expensive than we’re used to, it’s reasonably clean and tidy, but the buildings are very old and beautiful architecture, the Central Park is beautiful and full of flowers, it’s very close to the M5 so it’s easy to get to the coast and other areas of interest, there is a car museum which had we stayed longer we would have visited, transport is good with a park and ride if coming for the day, well worth visiting

We went to Taunton as we had booked a cider tour at Sheppey's cider farm. We got the local bus from the town to the cider farm which was really easy to do. Would recommend a visit to the farm. The town has some independent shops as well as the normal chains. We also went the the motor museum which is in town and very deceiving to how big it is from the outside, which looks just like a shop front. It really is good and the volunteers that help are very knowledgeable. There is also a castle but we did not have time to visit.

The environs were better than the centre although the churches and Museum are worth a visit. Traffic heavy in places and most streets not pedestrianised. I would recommend 'Augustus' for a special meal (Michelin starred). Most other restaurants very unspectacular. Brasserie meal in the 'Castle Hotel' disappointing. My favourite places are the Quantocks, The West Somerset Railway and Hestercombe Gardens.

Very friendly hosts, good breakfast. Quite a convenient location for a 20 / 30 minute walk into Taunton town centre. As per other reviews Yallands is surrounded by a housing estate but that really doesn't detract from the location when you are there, as it is a bit of a 'rural oasis in an urban area' There is also a comfortable guest lounge which was really useful for us. I'd certainly stay there again. - Thank you to the hosts.

Excellent location, a few mins from centre of Taunton, large free car park, comfortable, well appointed clean room with tea and coffee making facilities. Easy check in after 3pm, we arrived earlier but went for a walk leaving the car at the hotel. Didn't have breakfast in the hotel so cannot comment on the quality.
