FAQs about hotels in Swansea

Green Gateway to the Gower

Upon seeing Swansea for the first time, it hits you just how green it is, especially when viewed from Kilvey Hill. On a clear day the views stretch as far as sweeping Swansea Bay and even the undulating Mumbles headland at the edge of the Gower Peninsula - the UK’s first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with unspoilt beaches.

The Gower is also known for its castles, including Oystermouth Castle and Loughor Castle, overlooking the city from a hilltop. Swansea itself also has castle ruins which are Grade I listed, as is the Guildhall with its lavish interior frescoes.

Most historic city centre buildings were sadly lost during World War II, but the elegant Grand Theatre survived, as did Dylan Thomas’ childhood home in Uplands. The Swansea Museum – the oldest in Wales – is opposite the National Waterfront Museum and the LC indoor waterpark.

Offshore conditions are good for kitesurfing, and the marina shelters yachts overlooked by Wales’ tallest building: The Tower, Meridian Quay. The nearby SA1 Waterfront complex is becoming popular for its bars and restaurants, while shopping options include a covered market and the Morfa Shopping Park by Liberty Stadium, home to the city’s football and rubgy union teams.

Booking.com’s Swansea accommodation includes luxury hotels, cheap apartments and guest houses with parking.

We've lived here at some time in the last so we know it's plusses and minuses. The town like many others is betty to be a bit run down, but it's 10 mins from Mumbles and with the glorious Gower on the Doorstep. So overall, a big thumbs up. We are and drank in Mumbles and Swansea west, easy access , nice pubs and eating options. Very good sports available, soccer and rugby, and gold courses, and the walking is terrific.

We always felt safe when walking, even late at night, but there was a lot of rubbish on the pavements and the area overall was very seedy. Given the local architecture, a clean up would make the place much more attractive. The maritime area was very spaced out and there was not much to see or do. Mumbles on the other hand, although very small, was a much better place to visit.

Like most cities, Swansea was looking rather run down.

Like most cities, Swansea was looking rather run down. But we found a Wetherspoons for a good value meal and were there just for one night to see a concert at the Arena, which is a really good venue.

As Dylan Thomas says, it is a lovely, ugly, sprawling town on a bay of golden sand. The people are extremely friendly and unpretentious. There are some great bars in town for those who like a loud, party night out but also some really nice pubs and a cocktail bar in Uplands, which is great for night out. The beach is lovely for a walk and there are some nice restaurants overlooking the beach for a great brunch.

Excellent service provided by Phillip, prompt response to questions and accommodating our requests for an earlier check in and later check out. He also provides information on local attractions and suggested places to eat. The hotel is centrally located, a short walk to catch the bus to Swansea City Centre.
