A modern hotel in the city of Stoke-on-Trent, centrally located within the Midlands and close to Alton Towers, with excellent motorway, road links and rail links to the Northwest..
In a peaceful, rural location, this country house was originally built in 1845. Today, the house has been converted into a luxurious privately owned hotel with many beautiful original features.

we would avoid travelling South on a Friday the traffic on both sides of the motorway were horrendous.

It's easy to get around by car and a quite and clean town.
It's easy to get around by car and a quite and clean town. Plenty of stores and amenities. Tesco's Extra, Asda, Drive through Costa Coffee, Nando's KFC plus lots of local food places. Lots of good food options. There is designer outlet around 26 miles away near the M6 Toll which was a good treat, a 30 mins drive away. I mainly stay there when going to Alton Towers, perfect to get to and from there.

Stoke on Trent or the "Potteries" is one of the friendliest cities you will ever visit. Unfortunately it is not one of the richest cities in the UK but there are plenty of attractions in the surrounding area (including Alton Towers and Biddulph Grange Gardens). There is plenty of shopping and places to eat with specialist "Staffordshire Oatcake" outlets (these are not what you'd normally consider as an oatcake and are traditionally filled with cooked breakfast items such as bacon, sausage and cheese to make a delicious savory meal). If you can find an oatcake shop, try one! They're a bit like a "chippy"; you just go in and order from a menu that is wall-mounted or on the counter.

Stoke on Trent is dated and in all honesty, a bit of a dive.
Stoke on Trent is dated and in all honesty, a bit of a dive. Prolific for beggars and drug users which we did encounter right outside of the hotel (both rough sleepers and fellow guests openly using substances right outside of the front door). Unless you are travelling there for something specific, save yourself the headache and give Stoke a wide berth.
Pretty run of the mill Holiday Inn express.. but at £80 a night, I felt it was very expensive. Carpets in the room were very stained and the bathroom had areas that needed some TLC. Rubbish view but the hotel is on an industrial park next to the football stadium so couldn’t expect more. Breakfast was ok.. nothing to shout home about. Eggs were off the menu today which was a shame. Staff were friendly and helpful. Bed was comfortable but bed base had some dodgy stains! Stoke overall was a horrible place and would never return!
Perfect location, especially for a family (with Macdonalds and Tesco Extra across the road). Not that we used them, as the restaurant is excellent... lovely food and great service.
Best thing about the room?...The power shower! Wow! Best shower I have ever had in a hotel!
This was our 3rd stay at the WV (each for 2 nights). It's our 'go to' hotel when we come to Stoke. Wouldn't book anywhere else. Excellent value for money.
We had issues with our room and we were upgraded without charge. The new room was better for us. Staff were helpful. Both rooms were clean. Cheap parking at the back of the hotel. Walking distance to the high street and shopping complex.
