On average, 3-star hotels in Southwold cost £169 per night, and 4-star hotels in Southwold are £216 per night. If you're looking for something really special, a 5-star hotel in Southwold can on average be found for £153 per night (based on Booking.com prices).
Southwold is a great place to visit. However, like many places, it is far from being a secret. Thus it is often very busy. This is compounded by the lack of facilities over the winter season, meaning any attempt to eat out in a restaurant over the New Year break required prior booking, often days in advance. I do worry how much holiday lets are impacting on the sustainability of places like Southwold as a community.

Pretty small town with a long long beach, pier one end and harbour the other. Plenty of shops, eating options and pubs etc. This is a quiet place which will be a virtue for some.....just don't come with clubbing in mind, unless it's going to be golf !

Southwold is an absolute gem and a firm favourite in our family. It’s got enough going on to keep it interesting but also quiet and relaxing enough. Plenty of independent shops, galleries, eateries and of course pubs, coupled with scenic walks. The perfect destination for a weekend away as a couple, as a family or with friends.

Southwold is a small, pretty town.
Southwold is a small, pretty town. Re-built after fire destroyed it in the seventeenth century, it has many small or larger green spaces originally designed as firebreaks but now adding to the town's charm.
The beach is relatively wide and mainly sandy, with small pebbles and stones mixed into the sand in places. There is a friendly café in at the south end of the beach - do not be put off by the ever-present smell of cooking bacon.
In mid-September there appeared to be a shortage of restaurant spaces - it was essential to book for an evening meal, and possibly for lunch. Restaurant prices seemed slightly high compared to Surrey... We particularly enjoyed The Sail Loft and the bar in the Ship Inn, which did not require booking, seemed more spacious and had the same menu as the dining area.

Great beaches and pier (check out the Tim Hunkin crazy machines), hard to get dinner in any of the pubs or hotels, I strongly recommend booking before you travel in the summer. Found a great little burger joint on the High Street called Jack's, had one the the best burgers ever!!
The lifeboat museum is well worth a visit, as are the fish and chip booths down by the marina (10 minute walk along the coast), and from there you can be ferried across the river in a rowing boat to visit Walberswick (also very lovely).

Good position in Southwold, quiet, warm and relaxing. It was very well presented and obviously benefited from owners that care about the property. We loved it.
