A great place to stay with loads of restaurants within walking distance and great local transport links, at a very good day rate that covers all the Metro and the Ferry across to North Shields. We went into Newcastle and down to Whitley Bay on the Metro. Always difficult to know how long to stay at a place but we know we should have stayed longer then our 3days. The Grotto Pub in particular is worth a visit, check it out on the web, we consider this a must visit place, it even has a hotel there!

Excellent stopover without going into busy Newcastle traffic. Accommodation to suit all Budgets. Good selection of shops for a smaller place. Good selection of Pubs and Restaurants especially Indian and other ethnic food. Tandoori International on Ocean Road is a regular favourite. Road access from A1 is good and nearby Tyne Tunnel ( simple online £2.40 payment) gives excellent connection to Dutch Ferry Terminal and Newcastle Airport and road to Berwick & Edinburgh. Beach and Park amusements excellent for kids in summer.

Sea front is well designed and maintained.
Sea front is well designed and maintained. Town centre, as with many places, has seen better days and needs modernisation - except The Word which is a great facility. The Marine is a friendly pub to visit for a very good value drink and/or meal. The Metro provides adequate transport locally and the ferry to North Shields is useful.

We were there for 3 nights in The Sea Hotel, but do not recommend staying there as they have some issues regarding being in Administration, they are now owned by Adhams and NOT BEST WESTERN, none of the photos shown relate to what there is in the hotel or the rooms. However South Shields in general is very clean and friendly. Our final night we went to Colman's Fish Restaurant about 10 mins walk from the hotel towards the town and this was exceptional, the food, the staff and the cleanliness of the restaurant was outstanding.

Spotlessly clean 3 bed apartment on a very quiet road just 5 minutes from the beach at South Shields. Free parking right outside and handy shops 5 minutes away. We cooked one night and both breakfasts. It had everything we needed.
Well located so we could get to Sunderland and Newcastle very easily. Nice to walk around the local area too. Communication from the host was outstanding throughout. Would definitely stay here again.
The room was large and very clean, comfortable bed and nice shower. The buffet breakfast was lovely and the staff were very helpful, they even had gluten free bread. Overall a very nice hotel right on the seafront.
