Shanklin is a dear town with a mixture of old and new.

Shanklin is a dear town with a mixture of old and new. The old town is picturesque with plenty of cafes, pubs and eateries. The town is simple with charity shops among a few boutiques and niknak style shops. The beach front has some nice restaurants with balconies overlooking the sea. There is an arcade and crazy golf centre and plenty of walks nearby.

We love the atmosphere in Shanklin the pubs especially the Crab and the Village Inn, both provide wonderful food and dessert. The walks around the area are lovely, the charming shops we love to visit and take photos off.

Shanklin has a lot to off and is quieter than Sandown.

Shanklin has a lot to off and is quieter than Sandown. There is a good, sandy beach, great for making sandcastles, playing games or just relaxing. There is not far to go to the sea for a paddle or swim. Shanklin Chine is beautiful and well worth a visit. There are illuminations at night so very pretty. Once paid to enter you can return as often as you wish for a whole week. This is close to the beach and Shanklin Old Village which a beautiful, quaint old world village with thatched roofs. There is a variety of shops and good places to eat both in the Shanklin Old Village and in Shanklin as well as places to stay. There is a theatre with good shows. There is a train station and an excellent bus service with easy access around the island. This is a great place to stay.

Shanklin is shanklin, i hadnt been to IOW for twenty odd years, this was a weekend to celebrate my wife's 60th the island itself, isn't what is was, overall very tired. local delicacies aren't local anymore Clotted cream seems to be shipped in pre packaged portions from devon and cornwall very dissapointing and very overpriced every drive we went on we were met with reroutes due to various reasons, I used to love the island when i was a child and enjoyed taking my family there as I got older a two day break was quite long enough but there was one highlight that did surprise me Godshill although it has moved with the times and updates a bit, it still retained some of its character, but particularly noteable the car park Still Free after all these years. SHOCK!

Shanklin old village was outstanding local shops were good, but the beach was the usual English sea side gift shop game arcades fish shops and pubs serving usual English food. there are a lot better places to see and eat on the Isle of Wight. But as a base it was OK.

    A quaint seaside town.

A quaint seaside town. You have to get a lift down to the beach as the walkway has suffered erosion and slippage. Only £1 return. It’s great to be able to walk along the sea wall all the way to Sandown
