The Old Forge B&B, hotel in Sark

Offering garden views, The Old Forge B&B is an accommodation situated in Sark, 300 metres from La Grande Greve Beach and 1.9 km from Derrible Bay Beach.

The Old Forge is in a peaceful and idilic location and, affiliated with a chocolate shop, what could be better! Our room was beautifully clean, very spacious and the beds were super comfy. The breakfast set up was fab. No time constraints, a table allocated to your room, laid up every day. Plenty of breakfast items to choose from, including lovely fresh bread! Simon was a great host, nothing was too much to ask, and his wealth of local knowledge was very helpful.

We were lucky and had excellent weather.

We were lucky and had excellent weather. Sark is a fascinating place, it's like stepping back in time. All the restaurants catered for all our tastes (ages 70 to 9) and the food was good and the restaurants very relaxed. Make sure you book meals at high season. The water is crystal clear for swimming and the coastline is beautiful. It's well worth hiring bikes to see the Island properly.

Sark is just so different. A real escape.

Sark is just so different. A real escape. You need to be reasonably fit and happy to walk or cycle. The other alternative is horse and cart but not at night. Finding a light lunch isn't easy as most places seem to expect visitors to want a full meal at lunchtime. Also eating places aren't well geared for vegetarians. Time and Tide was excellent for an evening meal. For sweet treats, The Yard and Caragh. If you love to escape from the stresses and strains of everyday living, Sark is the oerfect place to visit. We stayed at La Moinerie for 1 night. Super place to stay and we could have happily stayed another night/had another day on the island.

The peace and tranquillity was wonderful, freedom from light and noise pollution amazing. The beaches were difficult to access for someone not familiar with the routes to them, and signposting could have been better.

Sark is a unique, gorgeous place with a warm, community feel about it. As there are no motorised vehicles except the tractors, it is like no other place we have been to and to say we feel refreshed and rejuvenated is an understatement. It is the ideal place for walking and seeing the beautiful scenery from every aspect of this picturesque island. Take good walking shoes and enjoy. We left Sark and felt as though we were leaving home and family.

    Lovely quiet unspoilt island.

Lovely quiet unspoilt island. A handful of wonderful eating places and great places to walk and relax. Beautiful scenery and a step back in time. Cycle hire available everywhere and some water activities if the weather permits. In wet weather there is not so much to do - sadly no longer a museum but a very interesting exhibition at the Island Hall about German occupation during the 2nd World War.

Sark is a delightful throw-back to quieter times.

Sark is a delightful throw-back to quieter times. No cars, only tractors and bicycles to avoid so generally very peaceful. Plenty of walking to do and some of the views across the sea are delightful. Plenty of places to stay. Plenty of places to eat, though perhaps more expensive than anticipated. Hiring a bicycle is recommended to help get around more of the island - especially if your stay is a short one. Good for a weekend break or simliar.

Great location for stargazing, great hospitality, and a quaint little bar onsite! It's on Sark, so you have to walk everywhere or get a bike - but it's not too far from where the ferry drops you off. There is a dairy farm just down the street where you can get fresh milk out of a dispenser (like fountain pop). My son drank 2 litres in one night. The tractors also drop off and pick up your luggage to/from the ferry, so if you can walk 1km on flat dirt roads, you shouldn't have a problem - this is a great location.

This is a pleasant place, close to the main street with its shops, eating places, post office and the supermarket. Because of the island's unsealed roads we were asked not to wear shoes in the house but were provided with the sort of slippers you find in some hotels. Usually these are too small but these were big. The toiletries were high quality. On a sunny afternoon it was pleasant to sit in the sheltered courtyard. Our hostess was friendly and helpful.
