Extremely clean and fantastic kitchen with all required utensils and cooking equipment. Great remote location. Loads of wood for fires, unfortunately,
couldn't have a fire or pizza out doors due to weather. Great showers.

Perfect venue for investigating mid Wales and the Elan Valley. Small town but has everything you need for a self catering holiday, the right shops and takeaways if you want them, but if you prefer to go out and be fed, all the pubs serve food. Astonishing area with the mountains, rivers and general countryside. Couldn't ask for more

Five pubs within a stones throw of each other in the main square. My kind of town.
The Crown was excellent and recommended by three different random strangers
Best stocked co-op I’ve ever seen 😆

The Triangle has good food and proper beer.
The Triangle has good food and proper beer. Also The Lamb and Flag serves a good pint of Cwrw. You must visit the 5 reservoirs whatever the weather. We only managed 2 on our 3 day visit as the weather was poor. However as it rained so much the overtopping of Claerwen dam was spectacular to see and hear.

Everything you could need is there.
Everything you could need is there. Friendly welcoming community. Excellent pubs, cafes and takeaways. Good shops. Prices very good. Lots of places to visit.localy. Remember there's no such thing as bad weather just inappropriate clothing. Everywhere is dog friendly.. We love Elan, great visitor centre, with gift shop, not overpriced and a coffee shop with great food, dog and child friendly. Great place to burn off excess energy, walk, bike,or run. Cheap parking, free hour or £3 all day. Lots of wild life and facilities for disabled people.

We came to Rhayader to go round the Elan Valley dams as we do each New Year. This time we decided to stay overnight and thoroughly enjoyed our stay in spite of the torrential rain. Whilst we enjoyed bed and breakfast at The Bear, we dined in the Crown in the evening where the food was excellent and the beer was good as well. The staff were great at the Bear and the Crown.
The Elan Valley and its dams, built to supply Birmingham with water and opened about 120 years ago, just a mile of two from Rhayader are well worth a visit to see the Victorian engineering. The Visitor Centre, as well as serving brilliant bacon baps and a cuppa, also houses a museum and shop where there is so much information about building the dams and the things that you can do in the valley like walking, cycling, bird watching and much more. We had a good time there.

Hafod Hardware shop is a must as its sells an eclectic mix of items and a visit to the tearoom by the clock tower. The only negative would be the lack of understanding of most drivers on how to negotiate the roads around the clock tower !
Breakfast was excellent, as was the location.
I honestly could not fault the Elan Valley Hotel. As for the Staff... Rachel and Lyn could not have made both my partner and I any more welcome. Nothing, and I really do mean, nothing was too much trouble for them.
Lovely cottage, spotlessly clean, well equipped and comfortable. Beautiful views from upstairs, and lots of red kite around. Food in the Lamb and Flag in Rhayader was very good.
