A real treat!
This is a charming and delightful former country train station, 2 miles outside Petworth Village and close to Petworth House.
Our accommodation was in the restored classic Pullman train carriages, each converted into 2 en-suite bedrooms. The carriages stand along the platform next to the station building, where a satisfying breakfast is served ion the old waiting room! The carriages themselves are fitted out with a good sized double bed. Most of the original paneling and decor has been retained and the room is decorated with period artifacts which give authentic character to the whole experience.
Checkers Hotel is located in the large village of Pulborough, on the edge of South Downs National Park. Free Wi-Fi is provided, as well as free on-site parking.

The breakfast was really good. Lots of choice and the "full English" excellent.
The bed was comfy and the room was spacious.
I would go there again.
Set within its own picturesque grounds, this award-winning former coaching inn, dating back in parts to 1430, provides traditional accommodations and a luxurious spa in the historic Sussex market town...

Very historical spot. The Staff were amazing. The Spa pools come as part of your stay - no nickel and dime add on cost like other places. The food was spectacular!! The Maitre'd, Horace was exceptional. Truly very good at his job. Will definitely be going again.
Conveniently placed on the A272 in the middle of Sussex countryside, this historic 5-star country inn encapsulates a balance between modern sensibility and rustic charm.

Charming, comfortable, friendly clean and welcoming. Exceeded expectations.
Petworth itself is ok if you like antique shopping.
Petworth itself is ok if you like antique shopping. Petworth house is ok, but is essentially an art gallery you don’t get to see much of the house. The grounds are great for walking. If you stay outside Petworth do not rely on public transport it’s non existent.

Well Diggers Arms was our respite after an awful flight from the US..They were kind and understanding, fed us and welcomed us. We found the inn tranquil, friendly with wonderful food, esp the breakfasts, and loved the private patio outside our room. We saw deer, bird and pheasants. A dream welcome to England!

A very pretty market town in the heart of West Sussex.
A very pretty market town in the heart of West Sussex. Lots of upmarket places to eat and an exceptional deli. The town has easy access to Petworth House and Park, a beautiful National Trust property with stunning interiors and fabulous walks. There are many antique shops, interiors shops and some smart boutiques, and the excellent Newlands Gallery, which curates terrific exhibitions - really first class. The combination of country and tiny town (more of a large village, really) is enchanting. It's the perfect place for a weekend break.

Great place to visit, huge amount of artwork and statues although the lighting did make it difficult to appreciate the paintings to their full glory. The grounds had lots of areas to walk through and a day of sunshine made it more enjoyable

Excellent and faultless on all aspects.
Excellent and faultless on all aspects. A traditional B&B as I remember them from years ago. If you're hesitating whether to book Kilsham Farm don't, just do it, you won't be disappointed.

See reviews by guests who stayed at hotels in Petworth
We were arranging a holiday for ourselves on the Isle of Wight, and we needed to find a hotel in which we could stay en route to the coast. When talking to friends who lived in Arundel, they recommended the hotel and particularly made us want to visit Petworth after finding out about Petworth House and the other galleries.
They also told us that, considering the lovely weather and the good food at the hotel, the four of us would very much enjoy an open air dinner together - and we did.
The room was good - medium size - reasonable view. I would recommend upgrading to a superior (and these will accommodate a dog) as the views across the countryside are stunnning. Cheaper rooms tend to have a restricted view or be overlooking the busy road., Breakfast was pleasant. The manager (Matt) was a star. Staffing varied. Quite a long way out of Petworth but we managed to walk it (bus back stops outside) - Dinner is pub style food and nice.
The room and bathroom were very spacious. The breakfast was generous and delicious. Liz and her family made our stay feel very comfortable and welcome. We brought our 3.5 month old daughter with us which worked great. It was also about an 8 minute drive into Petworth which was ideal.
The property was cosy, well equipped and very clean. There was a lovely seating area outside, with the bonus of a summer house. It's in the centre of Petworth with easy parking, ideal for browsing the independent shops.
The location was ideal for visiting the Weald and Downland Museum, West Dean Gardens, Petworth House , Uppark, and Fishbourne and Bignor Roman villas. It was also close to Chichester and the coast .
