The staff were pleasant and helpful.
The location was right on the harbour so there wasn't any convenient parking nearby, be prepared to carry your cases some distance.

Amazing location just outside Stromness. Beautiful views of the bay and the hills. Lovely guest living room that we had to ourselves being the only guests at the time. Lovely breakfast with stunning views. And let’s not forget the gorgeous Tyson who my wife would have happily took home! Next time we return to Orkney we will definitely be looking to book back in.

The hotel is well located for arrival on Orkney via St. Margret's Hope, easy parking, access and polite and friendly staff. my stay here set a high bar for expectations on the island as the first impression and thankfully i can say even on a short trip i dont have a bad word to say about any part i saw of Orkney

Set in Kirkwall, Orkney, family-run Ayre Hotel & Ayre Apartments overlooks Kirkwall harbour. It offers local produce in its restaurant and traditionally styled rooms, with free Wi-Fi.
The location is in mainland Orkney. It is situated between Kirkwall and Stromness and not far from any of the tourist sites. It's a short drive to the Stones of Stenness and the Ring of Brodgar and nature reserve. It's not a long drive to the Churchill Barriers and the Italian Chapel. The only downside is if you want to eat out at night you have to either go to Kirkwall or Stromness to find it. We ate at the Kirkwall Hotel and the food was very good, the service excellent and fast. For nature/bird lovers, it isn't far from the Hobbister reserve, nor is it far to go to get to the Loons reserve. The reserve at the Birsay moor hide is a little further but worth it to see Red Throated Divers and chicks. The Earls Bu and Orphir round church are well worth a visit. St Magnus Cathedral is free. Everything is in reasonable distance, a trip to Deerness to see the Gloup is amazing. And the wartime history from both world wars is all around the island.
