The location was great with wonderful views. It was close to the center of Kirkwall while being very quiet. Our host was exceptionally friendly and hospitable, and the provided breakfasts each morning were amazing!

Although we only covered a small part on our short trip there was so much to see and do in this stunning place. Everyone we dealt with were so friendly and helpful. The roads were great and easy to navigate

From the NorthLink ferry ride along the Orkney coast (beautiful!), our enjoyable stay in the historic city of Kirkwall, to visits to the prehistoric sites of Skara Brae, the Standing Stones of Stenness, Meashowe, etc., the Orkney Islands have so much to offer.
We would love to return to this beautiful island some day!

We've been to Orkney several times. Lovely island.
We've been to Orkney several times. Lovely island. Can be cold and wet and windy, so take several layers of clothing. Very attractive island. Maeshowe and Skara Brae are amazing, as are the other historical monuments. Museums excellent. St Magnus Cathedral lovely. Good restaurants and cafes. Travel easy by car but some roads are narrow so drive with care. Haven't tried the buses but understand there is a good bus service.
Our grandaughter's car broke down one evening and AA (of which she was a member) didn't come. Eventually the police took her home at 4 am. Not impressed by AA. Police very helpful.

I have been coming to Orkney for about 40 years, to see family and to visit the amazing sites etc. The only down side, for me, that since I last came, 2023, visitor numbers have increased hugely but I guess that's the price you pay for progress. But that does not deter me from future visits.

I felt that there wasn't enough pubs, coffee shops, shops open on a Sunday. I felt Stromness was quiet and there was a severe lack of shops. The Blues Festival was on when we were there and if this was not on Stromness would have been very quiet indeed. A lot of empty shops on Kirkwall and Stromness high streets which is really sad to see.

Aultnagar has a ‘home away from home’ feel to it. The house is inviting, well adapted for visitors and Laura has been the most welcoming host, very caring, attentive and friendly. I really appreciated the warm welcome as it was my first time travelling solo in a long time. I also was able to work remotely one day with great wi-fi connection and a dedicated space in the room. The room itself was very comfortable and had a great view of Kirkwall.
I can wholeheartedly recommend staying at Aultnagar when you visit Orkney!
Lovely setting, very comfy little cottage, self contained a little distance away from the host’s house with a lovely outlook towards the water. Well laid out with two bathrooms which was fabulous. Comfy living room with tv, books and dvds. Had a bath-bonus! Comfy beds and good heating. About 30 minutes from both Stromness and Kirkwall but a great place from which to explore Orkney. Host Sarah was very welcoming and a good communicator and addressed a small issue we had very promptly.
While part of my reason for going was work but we also spent several additional days in Orkney. We have been visiting Orkney for many years. Initially we used our caravan but in recent years have been unable to do so. The accommodation we used the first two years was not available but Polrudden provided a very acceptable alternative.
Fabulous place to stay. It is a nice location, a beautiful garden, many birds and it's very quiet. Owner is very kind and helpful. Breakfast is excellent. We recommend this place for your stay at Orkney!
