Grey Harlings Rooms, hotel in Montrose

"Located in the coastal resort town of Montrose, Grey Harlings is a family run hotel offering relaxing and cosy stays.

When choosing, make sure you understand that this is a room only service, there is no restaurant, bar or staff on site - or at least there wasn't when we stayed, might be due to winter operating and not all facilities are available during winter. There is no concierge or booking in process, only online, we when arrived we had to retrieve the key from a lock box on the wall and let ourselves in. There is a WhatsApp number to call or text if you have any questions. The room itself was fine, clean, warm and functional, bathroom was good too, nice and clean, tea and coffee making facilities. Clean towels and bedding. Has adequate lighting and TV in the room, we also had a little alarm clock radio on the bedside.

Esk House Apartment, hotel in Montrose

Offering garden views, Esk House Apartment is an accommodation located in Montrose, 8.6 km from Lunan Bay and 48 km from Discovery Point.

The location was excellent. Warm welcome on arrival. Appreciated the tutorial on how to work the TV as I don't have one. Was able to watch the rugby. Well equipped kitchen although we didn't really cook. Nice biscuits. Nice and warm. Plenty of hot water. Spotlessly clean. Loved that it was pet-free, although think the owner has dogs as I saw some in the garden. They were not anywhere near the apt though and they weren't barking. Very spacious and it wouldn't have been crowded with another couple there.

The Geo Apartment, hotel in Montrose

The Geo Apartment is located in Montrose, 8.5 km from Lunan Bay, 47 km from Discovery Point, as well as 44 km from Glamis Castle.

Once inside the apartment was overall ok but not perfect. The lounge area was ok but the dining area was very poorly lit. The bathroom was bright but no lock. The Internet connection was good. We did manage to have our family together and the takeaway was good from across the road.

I was returning briefly to the place I grew up.

I was returning briefly to the place I grew up. It has an interesting history having once been a port of importance for trade between Scotland and the Nordic countries. It was the place in the UK where the first mental hospital with it's raison d'être being as a place of cure rather than just incarderation was opened in 1782. There is a wonderfully long beach of soft sand to enjoy walking along and a few good pubs and eateries to keep you fed and watered.

Montrose is an easy place to walk around. Worth visiting the beach, nice walking path. A great eating place not far from the beach and not too expensive and quite classy as well. It was definitely worth making a booking, which we did. on our host's recommendation.

Montrose is a most acceptable town which has many well kept open spaces. The architecture is of interest too. Very easy to get to the countryside and the Montrose basin is something very special from a point of view of wildlife and scenic splendour. The town is easy to get to from the majority of Scottish cities as well as trains from the South also. The hotel has a very good restaurant, the food, as well as being delicious, was plentiful.

The staff here are amazing and go beyond making your stay comfortable. The facilities are comfortable and cosy, and even has a lounge to use to relax or work. Food facilities are excellent. When travelling the country staying at guest houses or hotels are always so formal, but at the Limes guest house you experience a slice of true Scottish hospitality. This is truly the only time I ever left feedback for a hotel stay… 100% good feedback. I will always stay at Limes guesthouse when I visit Montrose. I actually look forward to returning.
