Immaculate service, location and facilities are fantastic.
Overlooking the Market Square in the small town of Masham, this charming inn is set within a fine Georgian building of tremendous character, built in the second half of the 18th century.

Apart from one shop more for my spouse than for me, which was good in itself but flouted its wokery (my wife didn't see its rainbow shame), it was an interesting and enjoyable small town, and a nice place to weather the Christmas storm. It has some nice perimeter walks, and a 'Druid' temple within easy driving distance: the latter had us fooled but was built in Jane Austen days and was well worth the visit in spite of some sciatic type pain giving me some jip. We were impressed by Uredale Glass (tucked away in a side street from the Kings Head), with the Kings Head (Christmas Eve meal and in the Tesco points scheme), and with many more of the little shops (except one which shall remain nameless).

Lots of independant shops, worth working your visit to include the market on Wednesdays and Saturday. Good local walks and great local information available from the terrific staff at the community hub. Two breweries and a selection of top class pubs all within walking distance of the market square with a very good selection of ales in good condition.

Excellent public car park with honesty box.
Excellent public car park with honesty box. Not many shops but those that were there were interesting to visit, Good wine/local gin shop and good yarn shop. HGVs make Silver Street very noisy. Had meal at nearby Black Sheep Brewery, and it was the best cod and chips that I have ever had (and I am over 60)! Also I can recommend nearby Artison Craft workshop if you're into that kind of thing.
Lots of places to esat in Masham-some are much more expensive than others, and there looked to be a very good local butcher on Silver Street.

As small as this village maybe it has everything you need.
As small as this village maybe it has everything you need. Pubs, butcher, small shops and a supermarket that is open on Sundays. The Bakery was closed in the week we stayed here I hope this will not be permanent.

The main drawback to Masham, is there are plenty of places, in a 40 mile radius that are a lot better. Leyburn , Grassington, pateley bridge, pickering Thornton dale and many others we have stayed at.

Masham is a lovely little town with a market square, several pubs and a couple of cafes. Oh, and a brilliant fish and chip shop
We fancied The Kings Head to eat on the Friday night but it was fully booked, annoying but a good sign! So we ate at our accommodation The Bay Horse and it was very good, steak and ale pie, and venison casserole with mash.
Our Bay Horse bedroom (Swale) was quite quirkily furnished, definitely not in the standard Travelodge type mould. Lovely comfy bed and view out onto the town.

My wife and I stayed at The Bay Horse for one night, having enjoyed a previous visit in 2022. Checking in was easy. The room was spacious, clean and great value for money. The Bay Horse overlooks Masham Square so there is excellent access to the surrounding village. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely book again.
Lovely modern, spacious accommodation which was ultra clean. Located at the end of a country lane with immediate access to country walks and within 10 min walk to Masham square. Great base for Yorkshire Dales.
