Shenandoah House, hotel in Margate

Boasting a garden and views of sea, Shenandoah House is a recently renovated guest house set in Margate, 800 metres from The Bay Beach.

The location of the B&B was great - a fair walk into town but this meant it was quiet and felt very 'homely'. The room was pristine, spotlessly clean and tidy and I felt may have been recently refurbished. There is an honesty bar with some drink options which is convenient

Cliftonville and beyond towards Kingsgate and Botany Bay...

Cliftonville and beyond towards Kingsgate and Botany Bay much nicer for walking than into Margate itself. Beaches better that way too If jet skiing is your thing you can do it here. It has a club and cafe facilities. Or you can just watch from the top of the promenade and cliffs Margate itself has lots of eating places or if you walk towards Kingswood and Botany Bay there is the Botany Bay hotel and bar with indoor and outdoor dining and is very popular lunchtimes especially weekends. Dogs made very welcome. Order at bar with table number. We only had coffee but food looked very good and reasonable prices for a hotel. Staff very friendly and accommodating.

Margate is often described as up and coming.

Margate is often described as up and coming. It still has some way to up and come. Parts of the old town are delightful and there are some really excellent restaurants, but there are a lot of shabby, badly kept buildings all over the place and the overall vibe is a bit down market. This was our first visit to this part of Kent. Margate was a good touring base for the likes of Canterbury and Whitstable but, if we were to visit again, we would probably prefer to stay in neighbouring Ramsgate or Broadstairs, which looked more well kept and more interesting.

Margate has a place in my soul.

Margate has a place in my soul. This is a place I remember from being a young child. As with a lot of coastal resorts. Margate has it's rough spots. But it's making it's way back into the spotlight. I will be returning, but not via the Apartment I last booked.

Was there for a music festival.

Was there for a music festival. Large town centre off the seafront. Plenty to do bars, restaurants, museums, shops. Margate trying hard to cater for briader audience and wider diversity. Needs sunshine to get the most from holiday there. Music venues popular with range of artists.

1-2 days are more than enough to see and do everything in...

1-2 days are more than enough to see and do everything in Margate. We went to PalmBay beach which was stunning and secluded, just right for us with a dog. There’s a jet ski bistro there too with deliciously affordable food. Also I highly recommend anyone to do the escape room in Margate, which was amazingly immersive and fun. Also so many lovely little vintage shops and great places to eat as well as Dreamland the amusement park and the lost island mini golf. There’s the shell grotto, the caves and the turner contemporary museum to visit. But all of these can be done quickly and they are all only a few minutes from each other. The only negative thing about Margate is that you can clearly see not enough money has been invested into the area unlike Brighton and Southend. It feels neglected, the houses are run down and there’s a lot of run down and closed shops. However, the beaches are still stunning and clean surprisingly.

Wonderful hotel, very quirky with so much character. Staff were all very welcoming and friendly and always willing to help. Great location to explore Margate, Botany Bay and surrounding areas, with fantastic views from the hotel room and balcony. Breakfast was fantastic with a great selection of food, and the staff never rushed you to finish and leave, unlike many hotels. Also plenty of space to park car.

It was just what I was after. Nice room with all the facilities I’d expect. Super clean hotel. Really friendly, helpful people. In a very quiet road a stones throw from a lovely sandy beach and a short walk to Margate main sands for a sauna, swimming and award winning coffees and breakfasts. Easy walk from the station. Excellent, thanks!

Lovely, comfortable flat right on the seafront, but away from the bustle of Margate Main Sands. Decent kitchen area (washing machine was a bonus) and two comfortable bedrooms. Nice selection of puzzles and games for the evenings. Good communication from host, easy to pick up keys.
