A wonderful stay in a glorious ancient Manor House, steeped in history and with its character totally preserved. Tim and Sue were very welcoming and we thoroughly enjoyed Tim’s tales of potential ghosts and all the filming which the house has been used for. We stayed in Laline’s room with beautiful beams, a very comfortable four poster bed and huge sitting area. Be aware that the bathroom is up a few more steps within the room (not a problem for us) but there was plenty of hot water and really lovely toiletries. We weren’t able to make too much use of the facilities as we were staying in order to attend a wedding in nearby Notley Tithe Barn but I was thrilled to be able to play the Broadwood grand piano in the guests sitting room (Sue even went out of her way to lend me an appropriate pair of glasses to read the music as I hadn’t brought mine with me - above and beyond!!). The breakfasts were delicious - lovely homemade fruit compote, yogurts and cereals, local apple juice and a piping hot full English breakfast of the best kind. The icing on the cake was eating it in the most gorgeous 14th century room which had featured in an episode of Midsummer Murders (I watched it when we got home and noted that one of the main suspects ate breakfast in the same chair as me - great fun!). A fabulous stay, thank you so much!

Fox and Goat, hotel in Long Crendon

Set in Waterstock, 10 km from Notley Abbey, Fox and Goat offers accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a terrace and a restaurant.

We had a lovely 4 night stay at the Fox & Goat. Our rooms were smart, clean and comfortable with a lovely en-suite shower room. They looked like they had been refurbished fairly recently. We were supplied with tea/coffee making supplies and a small fridge with fresh milk in. The wardrobe was a good size and there were plenty of hangers supplied. An electric fan was stored in there too, which was very welcome indeed as it was very hot (it got up to 31 degrees) on two of the days we were there! They thoughtfully provided a fold out stand to put your suitcase on as well! There was a choice of cooked breakfasts on the menu, included in our stay charges, which I really enjoyed - I had the full English which comprised of 1 sausage, 1 bacon, beans, a mushroom, half a fresh tomato (cooked), and a fried egg; a slice of toast with jam/marmalade; & a pot of tea or a coffee. My daughter had the eggs Benedict (two poached eggs on bacon, on a toasted muffin, with Hollandaise sauce) and a pot of tea, which she enjoyed, and it was all cooked very nicely. All the staff we had contact with were very friendly and helpful. There was plenty of car parking, some in front of the building and another car park behind. If you want to use public transport, the bus stop is right outside the pub - very convenient!

The Five Arrows Hotel, hotel in Long Crendon

The Five Arrows is a Grade II listed boutique hotel and stands at the gates of stunning Waddesdon Manor. It features 16 individual bedrooms, a superb restaurant and a fine wine list.

You had to pre-order the breakfast the night before which meant that it was served at your chosen time. The breakfast was very good, cooked breakfast was not greasy and most enjoyable.

    Wonderful.

Wonderful. We would visit the property tomorrow if possibly. We would recommend the Thai and Curry restaurants. Both exceptional and even better you can walk to both restaurants. Thame is about 5 minutes from Long Crendon. Lovely village to walk around, parking free for 2 hours, lots of coffee shops, restaurants.

Wonderfully preserved Medieval town with more half-timbered, thatched cottages per capita than any town in the UK. Good places to eat (Thai, Indian, posh fish restaurant, pub fare) and gorgeous walks. Market town of Thame (pronounced Tame as in a shrew) is down the hill. Take the train from London to there and not Alyesbury which is further afield. Good taxi service. Great place to unplug and luxuriate in the English countryside.

We were at Long Crendon as we were attending a wedding nearby so only stayed for one night. We would have loved to stay longer as there was nothing we could fault. The house is amazing. So old and full of character and our room was lovely. Huge, comfy bed and even a seating area and dressing room. The breakfast was excellent. More than enough to eat and excellent quality food. All in all an excellent stay. Can't recommend Long Crendon highly enough.

Lovely village, small enough to explore on foot.

Lovely village, small enough to explore on foot. Unfortunately we could not explore as much as we would have liked due to the terrible weather, and spending one day attending a wedding at a local venue. Would liked to have seen the historic Long Crendon Courthouse.
