The Popinjay Hotel, hotel in Larkhall

Set in the stunning Clyde Valley, close to the M74 and 25 minutes from Glasgow, The Popinjay Hotel offers wonderful views, free Wi-Fi, and free public parking.

Unfortunately this hotel was such a disappointment On entry on arrival the smell of damp hit you steaight away The receptionist was miserable unfriendly and unhelpful. WiFi would not work and when asking for support we were told there was nothing she could do. We were staying g for 3 nights ! There were many other issues but cleanliness was also terrible. There were hairs in the bath cobwebs in their Light fittings pillows beneath the pillow cases were stained and strange mark on the sheet. The carpet needs replacing as does the. Furniture and the. Faux leather on the headboard was worn with what looked like scratch marks The upholstered chairs and headboard and curtains looked ingrained with grime and decades of use. The TV was very small, no WiFiand the sound from the very few dated programmes we found were in audible as if the sound was muffled. It took much longer than 5 minutes stated to get hot water to flow and the signage was very small and not easy to see, hence having to have a. Old shower on the first use as did not see any signs getting hot water was going to be such a difficulty. The ensuite was tiny with not enough space for the loo so all very awkward. I could go on but worried I ll run out of. Space.. so finally I'll end that we were able to wt Write our names in the dust on the window sills.

First full day we went to Lanark, very good for shops, Then we drove up towards Hamilton and visited Chatelherault Country Park and House which was very good and free. it also had a nice café. 2nd Day we went to New Lanark Mills visitor attraction where we spent an absolute great day. there were a 11 different places to explore but by far the best was the Annie Mcleod Experience. A ride through history in a Pod. Again another lovely restaurant. The ticket price at £9 for concessions was well worth it.

Excellent place to stay for a couple of days or as an overnight stay when travelling further into Scotland . It was a busy hotel with lots of weddings etc. This however did not interfere with our stay. Soundproofing in the hotel was good and we were given a room that was quiet. Not much to see around Larkhall but The Kelpies and the Falkirk wheel are nearby and both are worth a visit. Staff are all exceptionally friendly yet professional. Meals we have had in the restaurant have been good. This time as only there overnight just had an afternoon tea and a breakfast. Prices have risen since visit last year but this was only to be expected. Will definately stay again.

The photos are different from the actual place, but the place is absolutely fantastic and photos don’t capture the ambiance of the place, one member of the staff played the piano and everyone stopped to ask if it was really him playing, he was that good, I recommend that he plays during the evening and I guarantee people will travel to witness absolute perfection on the piano

I have stayed here often. It is a good hotel. This time, though, after I booked on Friday, I was told they were not doing meals - that was Saturday. I went ahead as I couldn't think of an alternative at such short notice and I had to be in the area. I was disappointed that when I asked if breakfast was included it turned out not to be the case. I evened called to query this to be told to include it in my booking. Unfortunately, here was no such option

You need a special reason to go there.

You need a special reason to go there. If you do not, you will wish you had not bothered. Popinjay particularly disappointing as I recall it from my youth as an old fashioned British style pub with great bar. Now it has been "improved" into a 70's "bistro", Soul-less, grubby and totally beyond redemption.

This cottage is beautifully presented with everything we needed, very comfortable and the garden was just lovely. We enjoyed the silence in this country location but still close enough to Larkhall.
