Goldsborough Hall, hotel in Knaresborough

In a stunning part of North Yorkshire, Goldsborough Hall is a stately manor that was once the home of Princess Mary, the great aunt of King Charles III.

The house was a country manor house operated as a bed & breakfast. The room size was very large, with a four poster bed and a large attached bathroom. The grounds were beautifully landscaped with many traditional English plants and flowers. The breakfast was very good.

Lovely place to stay. Very convenient location. Clean and comfortable room. Fantastic hosts. Karen was very friendly and welcoming and informative of the local area. Breakfast was yummy. Lovely stay, Knaresborough is fabulous, great shops and restaurants. Handy for visiting Harrogate annd Wetherby too .. The bus service was very hit and miss tho, I think due to roadworks? . We went to the bus stop near the Lido caravan park at 9.25am to get the 9.37am, no 1A bus to Harrogate, it didn’t arrive. So we caught the next one which arrived a little later at 10.15am… a local lady said they been like it a while now and advised us what to do to get back… on returning in the afternoon there was no sign of a 1A at Harrogate so we asked the driver of a 1B if it would get us anywhere near, and it did, we just got off near the bridge and walked the rest of the way. Didn’t bother us but as the local lady said it is affecting people who have hospital appointments at Harrogate.

Knaresborough is a lovely picturesque place.

Knaresborough is a lovely picturesque place. Small enough to walk around and big enough for keeping your interest. The town including castle associated museum, river and gardens were delightful, plenty of hostelries and cafes for food and drink for varying tastes and shops enough for any retail interests. If that wasn't enough for you, Harrogate is just " down the road" which we didn't visit on our two night stay, being just enough for the delights of this slightly "behind present times" and overall quaint feel of the place. Would thoroughly endorse it for a nice break although I have to say the sunshine did help the mood.

Knaresborough is a beautiful historic town.

Knaresborough is a beautiful historic town. The castle ruins are well worth a visit, and entrance to the grounds is free. The gorge through which the River Nidd flows is breathtaking, and there is an attractive path alongside it. Boating is a popular pastime. The town is well supplied with coffee shops and pubs, with some restaurants as well. The market place is good for sitting down and watching the world go by on a pleasant day, and there are references to two characters from the town's history, Old Mother Shipton and Blind Jack.

We loved our weekend in Knaresborough at the Christmas market and I would certainly recommend anyone to visit. There are plenty of places to eat and drink and lots of privately owned shops which is a bonus these days. A walk along the river is a must with a cafe to pop in for a hot chocolate when it’s chilly!

The location is amazing. The cottage sits on the waters edge. Cafes and pubs can be found alongside. Steps can be located all along the waterside to the town centre above. The cottage has a secluded seating area upstairs for guests in the upstairs rooms. Where you get the beautiful sights of boats on the river and of course the viaduct. The downstairs room offers an added bonus of a secluded hot tub. We choose to pay for a hot breakfast in a cafe nearby pointed out by the host. A continental breakfast is available on site.

Very convenient spot near Knaresborough. Lots of free parking. Food at the Bay Horse is unbelievably good. We weren’t expecting it to be so amazing. Breakfast is a very short woodland walk to the Goldsborough Hotel, the sister property. Wonderful breakfast in sumptuous surroundings, we felt extremely lucky and spoilt!!
