Had several lovely old buildings, but the place was dead (early evening on a Sunday after a football match!). More than one pub was closed by 9pm!!! Didn't compare favourably with Norwich where I was the day before. I hadn't been to either place before.

The town is okay but the quay is lovely.
The town is okay but the quay is lovely. Ipswich is a great place to travel out to Suffolk villages and the beautiful countryside. There are not many restaurants serving good vegetarian fare and everywhere has to be booked ahead if travelling at the weekend.

At the time of my stay (arrival should have been around 6 pm) the surrounding roads were a complete nightmare. I got caught up in a gridlock on the nearby roads wasting almost an hour. I this is normal for the local rush hour I would not go back again.

Sad to see the famous White Horse Hotel in ruins.
Sad to see the famous White Horse Hotel in ruins. Charles Dickens stayed there on his reading tours.
The Waterfront is a lively place to visit. The Salthouse Hotel is worth a visit if only to see the interesting artefacts and decor.
The Ancient House is now empty, which is a shame
We enjoyed a performance of Serene at the Wolesley Theatre
The Wetherspoons serves my grand-daughters favourite Vegan sausages and is always good value
My grand-daughter loves to find "treasures " in charity shops and there are plenty. She found a discontinued Jellycat for £3 and found it is now worth £80 !
We enjoyed our stay

I was only there for two days so it's a fleeting glimpse but I hated Ipswich!Although there are some nice bits, and plenty of eating places my overall experience was of a once-important place spoilt by too many roads, cars, poverty, rubbish and huge derelict buildings. The Thomas Wolsey is a good pub!

Room was clean and comfortable. Parking was busy upon arrival because of Ipswich home game but spaces were coned off for hotel use. Later in the evening parking was plentiful. Enjoyed the carvery meal.
