The Maybank is in a lovely location and we had a really comfortable room that had a real home away from home feel to it. The lady working there was very welcoming and incredibly friendly. We also loved the biscuit offerings in the room, that was a real treat!

    Great independent cafes and restaurants.

Great independent cafes and restaurants. We had amazing coffee and cakes at Overflow. The Ginger breadman was delicious for breakfast and lunch, also good coffee. Amazing pizzas at Padrones and lovely dinner and wines at the Sugarboat to name a few! The town has many nice independent shops too and a local cinema. Buttercup moon do some gorgeous kids and baby clothes. Monty’s farm is great for young children, with animals, soft play with good coffee, which is a short drive away. The lochs are only a short distance with some of the most beautiful views on some great walks. I’d definitely recommend and come back here again.

Some great places to eat and shop.

Some great places to eat and shop. If you fancied Chinese one night and Spanish the next it’s a very short walk from one to the other. Two train stations and regular buses to reach all parts of the country. Some pubs a no go for out of towners. The Sun Chip Shop was the best I’ve visited outside of Edinburgh.

The general impression was the beauty of the houses & gardens. All immaculate ,loved & cared for. Old world charm. The food was excellent ( Commodore Inn ) Service & quality good. Local cafes good. Delightful ambience. Everyone was helpful. Accessibility to Edinbrough by train excellent, even tho for us Aussies rather expensive .$106 for 2 people return. Accessible to all the scenic places. Loch Lomond, Glen-Coe Stirling Oban & Perth. I have to mention that the lively couple from the Helensburgh Laundromat were ever so helpful. if I should ever come back to Scotland I would choose the same location.

I love history, so an opportunity to stay in a house like this is a rare treat. if you want boring-box hotel room then it's not for you. If you want character it absolutely fantastic. High ceilings, original features, stately feel in abundance. It's close enough to walk into Helensburgh, which has lots of amenities and some great places to eat out. Close to the shoreline for a nice stroll. Lovely quiet area. Very relaxing.
