You can get there on the train and there is everything you need for a weekend of walking, with a range of easy or more challenging circular walks. There is a choice of places to eat as well as shops to get supplies. The David Mellor factory/museum is also within walking distance.

It is a lovely place for walking.

It is a lovely place for walking. I could only manage a short walk through Fairy Woods, but it was definitely worth it - even just to walk through the whimsical doorway that leads over the stream. Do pack shoes that you don't mind getting muddy though! Castleton with it's caverns is only a few minutes drive away too.

it's the UK, so don't count on the weather. But rain, mist, sunshine or just a light drizzle, it's beautiful in every situation. Perfect for walkers but come prepared for weather. Never far from a small town. Just watch out for buses as don't have a very good or reliable timetable after 5pm.

I have regulary visited Hathersage over the past 60 years, Great place to start walks, great outdoor swimming pool with excellent cafe underneath. On the high street is an excellent quality fruit shop and round the corner a lovely Bakery. On top of this many great pubs to choose from and some of the best outdoor activity shops available. Hathersage has its own station and is home to the famous designer David Mellor. Great place for literature explorers with locations related to both the Brontes and Little John from Robin Hood . To top it off within 3 miles of some of the worlds greates rock climbing routes Local attractions within 15 minutes - Castleton and its caves, Edale Valley and Kinderscout, Bakewell, Stanage edge, Longshaw (NT,) Eyam and only abaout 20 minutes by car from Sheffield or Chesterfield centre

It is a lovely little village not much there for kids but if you like walking it is a really good place, also all places are dog friendly. there is an outdoor heated swimming pool in the village but we did not go in. We did go on a bus tour which is £9.50 for the day we went on the Blue tour. This takes you through the peak district up to blue Johns mines with amazing sights and all the way back to Chatsworth house. You can jump on and off the bus at different villages. We went to see Little John's Grave and a lovely little church in the grounds to visit. there are a few pubs in Hathersage to eat but we ate at the Little John pub.
