It was in a great area with an easy walk to the Harwich port to hop on a ferry the next day. Facilities were very clean.

The pub was cosy and had great food. The location was great for catching the Stena Line ferry and the staff were helpful arranging a taxi there.

Bathrobes in the room. Very welcoming hostess. Comfortable bed, quiet room, and good breakfast. Good value too.

The people are so welcoming from the international station to Parkston,, a lady let me know directions.. even gave me a lift to where I was staying.. a boy in the morning led me to where I needed to go,, the areas nice for walks
What I don't like about the town is.. locals in Dover court.. there doesn't seem to be anyone normal.. they come across rude.. weird and there's a lot of drugs in town.

If you love history Harwich is an absolute treat.
If you love history Harwich is an absolute treat. The historic centre is tiny - Harwich is tiny!! - but there is so much to see and do. Plus, depending on the time of year, you can always get the foot ferry to Shotley or Felixstowe.

The sole reason of visiting Harwich was to take the car ferry to the Hook of Holland. We walked around Harwich town before leaving and were quite disappointed to see it was run down. There didn’t seem to be many bright spots there, so no reason to return.

Once you find your way around there is plenty to keep you busy and entertained. The town is steeped in maritime and political history, which is well documented at the museum, where entrance is modestly priced. Harwich and the adjoining Dovercourt are accessible on foot. There is a park for children to play in and stretches of sand; plus a promenade for families and mobility scooter users to enjoy the sea air. Buses do exist but you need to check the timetable. Trains from Harwich Town station run regularly. Taxis are easily booked. Parking is good. Solo travellers feel safe. There are several hotels, cafes and take-aways for eating, though opening hours need to be checked. You can book sea trips from the harbour. I recommend the town for adults and children alike.

We found Harwich to be clean and litter free. Easy and close access to shops, station, harbour, pier and places of interest. People were very polite and friendly. Nowhere was crowded, quite the opposite.

A fascinating town full of history and compact enough to amble around in comfort. Great views at the hotel and quayside and pleasing open spaces near the lighthouses. A great mix of old world charm and modern industry on the waterfront. We enjoyed the various museums and the redout fortification.
