The room was tight for a family of four but it was cheaper than anywhere else. Staff were extremely helpful on arrival, at breakfast and when leaving. We have 2 children with very different needs and the lady in the breakfast area could not have been more helpful. Especially when they wanted to make their own hot drink and had different food needs.

Set around the Exe River, affluent Exeter has played a part in English history from the Roman era to William the Conqueror to the Spanish Armada. Its most impressive structure is the cathedral, begun in the 11th century and boasting the longest stone roof in England.
The surrounding green is a popular picnic spot, and the half-timbered buildings and red-brick façades of the neighbouring High Street house a host of shops. Even more are in the Princesshay and Guildhall shopping centres.
The Guildhall itself is considered England’s oldest municipal building still in use, while nearby Parliament Street is one of the world’s narrowest streets. The remains of 11th-century St Nicholas Priory are now a museum, and there are more red-stone ruins at hilltop Exeter Castle (or Rougemont Castle), built into the Roman walls.
Exeter Central Station is behind the castle, while St Davids Station is nearer the university. The large student population means that the city has good nightlife, and some bars are located by the Quayside, site of Custom House. The river flows past Topsham and Powderham Castle to enter the sea at Exmouth.
To the east are Exeter Airport and the Westpoint Arena exhibition centre, both easily reached from Booking.com’s hotels with spas, cheap apartments and guest houses with parking.

The area in which I stayed was a bit down-at-heel. The areas of the city around the cathedral were very smart. Overall, mixed. In Exeter itself, the "places to see" were a bit difficult to access in January. The Cathedral was closed on Sunday afternoon when I'd expected it to be open, then on Monday morning, the more interesting half of the cathedral was inaccessible. The Guildhall was due to open at 10:30 but didn't for half an hour. I turned up at the Underground Passages mid-Sunday-afternoon to find the last tour had been at 3pm. Even in January, eating on Saturday evening was difficult without a booking!
There is only one tourist office, in the riverside area, which is a bit bleak in January, and really rather inaccessible, hence disappointing. I arrived on Friday afternoon just after it had shut.
Part of my plan had been to use Exeter as a centre for travelling elsewhere by public transport, and this should not be overlooked. I got to both Totnes and Exmouth and back on successive days.

I have spent many weekends in Exeter with family.
I have spent many weekends in Exeter with family. I love the vibrant shopping centre, great selection of shops, places to eat. Fabulous old buildings with plenty of character. Something for everyone from charity shops to high end clothing stores. Antique shops along the quayside to while away the day, followed by good food from the many restaurants nearby. Regular visitor to see family and explore another part of the city.

A lovely city with beautiful little villages in the surrounding country and coast. Nice pubs and restaurants, lovely countryside and a gateway to the South-West. A pretty piece of England that deserves more attention.

It's an interesting city that's been a bit battered by...
It's an interesting city that's been a bit battered by Luftwaffe and town planners but there's still enough to see. The museum is absolutely charming. Cathedral closed when we visited because of high winds (!!!).
If you can't get into the Moroccan restaurant on Cathedral Yard the Cote is fine. The city centre pubs are a bit grotty in the evening.

Many historical buildings and churches to visit - too many to list. One of the most beautiful cathedrals in Britain . Interesting quay, medieval bridge crossing the Exe and underground passages. A number of conveniently located historical pubs in the city centre dating back to the time of Charles Drake and Walter Raleigh. The city wall, parts dating back to the Romans worth a visit.
One negative - much of the City's centre bombed flat in 1942 during the war.

A town with two faces.
A town with two faces. One an active university with many students appearing at dusk. The second a regional shopping centre with better retail facilities than many. Traffic restrictions in the centre make foot and bus the best form of city centre travel. Plenty of historic things to see.

A quirky individual hotel. Warm,friendly owners who were welcoming and provided a relaxed atmosphere.
We had a room for three female friends. The third bed was in a small room alongside the twin bedded room and we all shared an en-suite bathroom. Absolutely ideal. The breakfast was fabulous with both a full cooked breakfast and/ or fruit salad,yoghurt,croissants,toast etc. Excellent filter coffee.
Hotel located approx 15 min walk from town centre,20 mins from the quay. 5 min walk from Exeter St David train station.
Location is ideal for Exeter city centre, there's a carpark right outside that's not expensive & has an app that's very easy to use. The hotel staff are all very friendly & helpful, all the hotel is modern & clean as was our room, nice clean bathroom, comfy bed, the breakfast was excellent we have stayed here before & will again & would definitely recommend.
Reasonably priced room and friendly staff. It is no frills but guests need to realise they are staying in a pub, not a 5 star hotel. Overnight accommodation in Exeter is pricey. Overall happy and would return.
Excellent place to stay not far from the city centre. Hotel was clean staff were very friend. Room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was Excellent best poached eggs.
