Just come back from a long weekend in the IOM. We really enjoyed our stay, had a lovely room with great views, lovely to wake up in the morning to the sound of the waves. The food and service was excellent, it was our wedding anniversary weekend and we had such a lovely time. My husband's second visit, my first. Will definitely be going back and wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Rutland. We had room 305 , great views ❤️

The location was absolutely perfect for a multi day stay; close to the ferry port, grocery stores, restaurants and bus/train transit. The workout room and laundry were a nice surprise.

It was like walking back in time to a Victorian seaside resort, on the frontage anyway. Up in the town centre, it looked pretty modern. I loved the steam trains and the Electric Railway. The view across the bay was very pleasant and I enjoyed watching the fishing boats and ferries coming and going. Everyone seemed very friendly and there was very little litter.

A return visit to the Island and its heritage railways found everything in good heart. The hotel with its sea views is adjacent to the bus stops, so a combined Go Explore ticket covered all transport for 3 days and moderated the walking along the promenade. Grand to ride on the horse tram again.

Had a fabulous time in Douglas and the Isle of Man.
Had a fabulous time in Douglas and the Isle of Man. Would highly recommend coming over as a foot passenger from UK and buying a Go Explore travel Pass whilst here. When you arrive you can get a booklet from the Welcome Centre at the Sea Terminal ( even when closed) giving you all the bus/train/tram timetables) We came from Manchester on the train to the ferry, (crossed as foot passengers) very reasonably priced and travel pass on Isle of Man was brilliant. Cost £72 each for 5 days, bus, tram, train and all heritage sites. Cost £72 would have cost (for everything we did) £167.30! Fabulous saving, plus saved on not bringing the car over and didn't have to drive. Great place to eat is The Whitestone at Ballasalla, lovely food. Also the Terminus at Derby Castle, Douglas. Stayed at The Empress Hotel, half way between Sea Terminal/Bus Station on Central Promenade, lovely hotel with great breakfast and lovely restaurant and bar serving great food. If you want a drink go to Quids Inn ( seems a bit weird cos you have to pay a Quid to get in but prices are cheaper than anywhere else) great karaoke on Wednesday night. Another place to eat is 1886 Bar with the automated waitress/waiters, quite amusing.

Hard to get a true picture as I visited in October, some of the buildings look a little rundown but as you get closure to the centre of Douglas things improve. Food generally very good and the promenade surfaces area well presented. Monday and Tuesday you can expect some of the businesses will not be open, this is common as was the same in Peel. Times are hard for businesses and would visit again was a great short break and the isle of Man is a great place to visit.

Lovely city and promenade.
Lovely city and promenade. Beautiful vista along the sea front and excellent footpaths to walk and enjoy the whole promenade. Easy free parking for 2 hours throughout the city including the multistory car parks which is a big plus and makes visiting Douglas so much better. Easy walking once you've parked and wheelchair friendly.
Nice variety of shops, cafes and pubs. The local people are friendly and helpful, and happy to help if you need to know where to visit on the island. There are many different options for places to eat out; from fast food, fish & chips, Chinese, Italian etc and many hotels offering a variety of menus.
The roads out of the city to the rest of the island are wide and in pretty good condition, fewer pot holes than many English roads, and signage to the other towns and villages is clear so easy to travel throughout the island. All in all, Douglas is a lovely place to visit.

Everything about this hotel was amazing.
The staff were helpful and very friendly.
the rooms were comfortable. shower was amazing and beds extremely comfy.
the views were amazing from my room.
breakfast was tasty and would definitely recommend.
there is a bus stop close by if you don't want to walk into the town. the town is approximately a 20 min walk and the electric railway a 9 min walk. but buses are frequent.
I would definitely stay here again when I return to Douglas.
Staff were all very friendly and helpful. It felt as if they genuinely cared. Staff were having breakfast in the dining room at the same time as us. That was really good to see - that everyone was treated by the management with equal respect. Food good. Very good location. Taxi driver told us it was the best hotel to stay at in Douglas!
Apart from that hotel was great - location couldn't be beaten. We had an apartment with a lovely view across the bay. The apartment itself was spacious and very well appointed. This was our first visit to the Isle of Man, and the Sefton is a great base.
The location of the hotel within Douglas was good. Parking was available on the street. The room was clean and well presented. The breakfast was very good, with a good choice of hot and cold food.
The staff were very welcoming and helpful, including advice about local facilities. The breakfasts were excellent. The location was superb to see Douglas and the wider Isle of Man.
