Shave Farm, hotel in Chard

We arrived after a long drive from Yorkshire and instantly felt welcome. The staff were absolutely lovely and got us settled in our room. The room itself smelled gorgeous and was impeccably clean. The facilities were fantastic and we had everything we needed and more, with a fridge, toaster, kettle, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, bread, fruit, yogurts, water, milk and juice just to name a few of the things in the room! The bathroom was spotless too and the shower was lovely and powerful. The beds were incredibly comfortable and we all slept like logs! We woke up to a cold morning but we turned the heating on and it warmed up really fast. Then breakfast was delivered at exactly 9am as we had asked for it to be the night before. The full English breakfast was delicious, especially the sausages which I've been craving ever since! Then we checked out to start another long drive for a family funeral, the staff gave us their condolences and warned us that snow was expected later that day, which helped us avoid the worst of weather on our drive as we decided to head home an hour early due to this. We had a fantastic stay and we will definitely be back. Thank you for making a difficult trip due to the funeral as comfortable as possible!

I remember Chard from my youth (1960's) and it had obviously changed in some ways but it is an interesting town with a good selection of shops and eating /drinking places. The old cinema of my youth (The Cerdic ? ) is now a Wetherspoons. I wish I had more time to explore.

A small town, not many places to eat out...we ate where we stayed at The Bath House Hotel and restaurant - a Malaysian fusion restaurant, rather pricey but a nice meal. A good base to travel on from or go to places to visit - we had a day in Sidmouth from Chard , so an easy place to travel from!!

Very disappointed with Chard, a very sad town with little going for it. Expected a pleasant, country town but Chard certainly was not. Rough pubs, takeaways, boarded up premises & several locals who appeared to be under the influence. I would not recommend, avoid!!

Chard itself didn't seem to have lots to offer although the Wetherspoons was clean and always available. It is a good location and base for what we wanted, which was visiting East Devon, West Dorset and West Somerset. The weather was foul some days but we can't blame Chard for that!

Once arrived at the Haymaker, all the staff were very friendly and helpful with everything I asked. Room was very spacious, clean, fresh towels , tea, coffee, bottled water replaced every day. Breakfast was amazing, even had gluten free options. We ate there couple times, friends joined us one night and commented how good the food was. We're going back again soon

It was a very pleasant stay.

It was a very pleasant stay. Great location in the village of Chard. Great that they had there own parking. The room was adequate, nice and clean. Although it was a last minute trip so we got the last room. The shower was lovely and hot. Very quiet location. The breakfast was really good . Trudie, David and there lovely dog Chester, were all very friendly and gave us lots of advice on where we were visiting. I would definitely recommend and quite happy to stay there again.

Our first visit to Chard. Lovely hotel and amazing host. On arrival, we were given an upgrade. We stayed in Sukura, the room was very clean & comfortable. Breakfast is very good too, all cooked fresh. We would definitely stay here again if and when we return to Chard. We would highly recommend this hotel and would love to try the restaurant next time. A family member has just moved to Chard and will be recommending this hotel, too. Thank you for a lovely stay.

The hospitality was outstanding, we sadly had our car breakdown on the way to Somerset and ended up leaving it at the hotel for the week. They even tried to help us with sorting a garage too, nothing was too much trouble. We had our dog stay for free which when you compare to other hotels was amazing. He even got included in breakfast with a sausage. Such friendly staff. Absolutely no complaints. Lovely room and breakfast.

Easy to find and was booked in particular as had 'destination' Electric Charge Facilities. (BP Pulse account with credit on it required). The hotel excelled in their room provision which was upgraded. The breakfast was good and the evening meal facilities also didn't disappoint.
