It was a beautiful hotel. Very comfortable. The staff were excellent and very accommodating. And also very polite and friendly. It was the perfect spot to walk into Sidmouth. Being a solo traveller sometimes it is hard to feel comfortable in some situations but here I felt very relaxed and at ease.

Our flight was delayed so we arrived after the restaurant closed. The owner and his wife made us welcome, even though they had closed for the night. They very kindly opened a bottle of wine and made us a wonderful dinner. Throughout the stay their hospitality was amazing. The owner would not let us walk to the bus stop, instead he very kindly drove us all the way to Sidmouth in his own car! They really could not have done more for us!

The staff was very very helpful. They gave us a room with an excellent view along the Esplanade. The breakfast was really good. We also liked that it was shoulder season and had fewer people. It was really nice walking into town and along the coastal trail.

The hotel is lovely and set in a beautiful garden. Although an old building (which is a plus) it has been really well maintained.
The bedroom I had was top notch, the bathroom modern and all the communal areas were clean and stylish.
Situated essentially near the top of the main street you can walk to the seafront either via all the shops or via the Riverside Walk. It's a great location.
The owners and staff are very friendly and efficient. The food is wonderful...the chef has this nailed!
Parking is good.
I will stay here again on my next Sidmouth visit.

Such a beautiful place, a real hidden gem, The Masons Arms was a beautiful place to stay with amazing staff and food!
Felt that that nothing was too much trouble, from check in with the lovely Donna, that showed us to our rooms with our fresh milk jug! And a fully stocked mini bar with ice cold water ! and booked dinner for us which was delicious.
Highly recommend this beautiful place.

I would imagine Branscombe would once have been a pleasant little community but now it appears to be a lock up and leave village which is really sad. Like so many other small village dotted around the U.K. there seems to be no sense of community, probably bustling in summer months with holiday makers.
There is a lovely walk from the village down to the coast along the river side part way. There are footpaths but some are hidden. A quiet spot for an early spring break but watch the narrow windy single track roads and pray you don’t meet a lorry! There are great coastal paths here for walkers and it’s a nice spot for dog walks.
The rooms at the Mason’s inn are impressive and comfortable. The little kitchen area in ours lacked cutlery, wine glasses, tea towels and a kettle. It had two fridges though and a coffee machine where you could get hot water.
We really missed our cappuccino in the mornings for breakfast, the coffee provided at breakfast wasn’t great.
All in all Branscombe is a nice place for a short stay.

We stayed in Branscombe because it was close to the location we were visiting the next day. It was a lovely village and the beach was only half a mile away. We could've spent at least two or three days there at the hotel.

Comfortable large double bed and large room and bathroom.
Comfortable large double bed and large room and bathroom. But we gave manager a list of "niggles" (e.g. light in bathroom mirror not working) that were not put right during our stay. Decent food though sometimes overcooked. All staff very friendly and helpful including taking suitcases to our room - important when there are so many steps. Only outside space was immediately onto car park.= - no garden or lounge. Although we liked the hotel, overall we felt it was rather overpriced.

Beautiful village with lovely walks.
Beautiful village with lovely walks. We took the coastal path around the cliffs to Beer, which was challenging in parts, and the cliff top walk back. I’m so glad we did it that way round as the hill back down to Branscombe beach was so steep there was no way I’d have managed to climb it. We walked up the hill to The Fountain Head pub one evening and had a fabulous meal; would definitely recommend a visit as apart from the excellent food, the staff were great too.
We were very happy with the generous size of the room and a proper disabled wet room en-suite. The position was also perfect for our little dog.
The staff couldn’t be kinder and more helpful. Every request was happily met and promptly dealt with.
The morning walks to Branscombe beach was along a well marked level pathway and heavenly!
It was a perfect retreat to unwind and recharge. We totally enjoyed our stay!
Well appointed rooms, warm, cosy, old world charm and elegance with mod cons. The staff were warm and friendly, without the over familiarity. Great location to use as base to explore the surrounding area. Only a 10min (half a mile) to the local beach. Branscombe is a pretty village. Great fish and chips at Masons. Piping hot food. Local lager, Korav, nice tipple.
We loved our stay at The Mason Arms the staff were all very friendly, the rooms were lovely and comfy, the evening meal and breakfast were great and all a short walk from Branscombe beach. The guest gardens were a great added bonus. Despite the minor negatives we will be back!
Excellent stay with lots of personal touches from dog welcome pack
To the dyson fan being an added bonus the room itself was perfect
The friendliness of all the staff to the superb roast beef
Perfect walk with the dog to Branscombe beach
The location - Branscombe - has been our favorite place to visit for over 25 years, and Smugglers Close was the icing on the cake with it far more than we expected as we had not stayed there previously.
