Lovely town center with lots of local independent shops for gifts and some main chains for groceries (Coop and Tesco nearby). All kinds of cuisine on offer if eating out.
Windermere a 30min walk away with a similarly nice town centre with unique finds for the Lakes. An abundance of galleries, outdoor and craft shops.

Had a weekend here.
Had a weekend here. Could have spent longer, mainly because I got caught in Storm Bert which wiped out a day when all routes out of Bowness were blocked. However there are plenty of pubs, bars, restaurants shops to visit in the town. Luckily the electric hire boats were running on the Sunday so took the opportunity to spend an hour on the lake which was great fun. The open top bus in November is something else! Favourite bar was bodega. Favourite eatery was magic roundabout. Favourite modern pub was Angel Inn. Favourite old school pub was Hole in t Wall. Favourite gift shop was the Lake Information Centre

Charming old world town with spectacular views of lake Windermere. Many options for places to stay mostly only a few minute's walk from the shops , restaurants , pubs and bars with the boat piers easily accessible and well organised. Beatrix Potter museum definitely worth a visit. Boat trips were great for exploring other parts of the lake including Lakeside and Ambleside at bottom and top ends. Spent a happy three nights in Bowness and wouldn't hesitate to visit again some day.

I have been visiting it for 30 years it's like my second home. I always try new restaurants and pubs. I love bus hopping as my mobility is not good. The 508 over Kirkstone pass is my favourite. I found a little Italian restaurant in Windermere call San Pietro the staff and food were excellent. Can't believe I haven't spotted it before. We be back in a few months time.

We hired an electric boat for a day which was great fun.
Also walked up to Brant Fell. A short but very steep hike. Amazing views over the lake and towards the mountains.

We've been to Bowness on Windermere quite a few times over the years and always stayed at Storrs Hall hotel. We decided to stay at a different hotel on our last trip which came right up to our expectations. Bowness on Windermere is always a nice place to visit and full of good restaurants.
We tried a Thai restaurant for an evening meal on main street. Excellent as was our visit.

The hotel is what you'd expect for a spa hotel, the spa is lovely and it was reassuring to see the staff cleaning out the pools as they get a lot of use (much quieter after 8:30pm though). From the hotel we were able to walk into town and find a good selection of pubs, restaurants and shops.
The staff were excellent throughout our stay.
Bowness Guest House is exceptional! Stylish, immaculately clean, phenomenal showers and the warmest of welcomes. You have absolute freedom to come and go with your own key fob and it is so near to Bowness on Windermere high street, yet just far enough away to be peaceful. Utter bliss.
The cottage was in a very good location with everything you needed for a lovely stay. It was very clean and comfortable. Would recommend this to anyone staying in Bowness on Windermere. The small touches added by Andrew and Kate were very much appreciated! We had the best time.
