The Crown Inn was beautiful presented, so clean and tidy. The rooms gave off such a nice cosy and homely feel. The beds were very comfortable and the rooms were very clean. We turned up at midnight due to a long drive up country and all staff were very friendly and accommodating. The rooms had everything you needed. Breakfast the next day was very yummy! I would 100% recommend the Crown Inn and would stay here again.

First class hotel. Friendly helpful staff, beautiful, comfortable room and excellent food. We were driving south from Scotland to Liverpool to join a cruise ship, unfortunately due to bad weather conditions our itinerary was changed and we elected not to sail. I rang the hotel on our way back north and were delighted that they were able to give us the same room. Would definitely stay at Roundthorn again.

A short walk from this wonderful village is Lowther Castle and estate. Great walking from this village - you can walk over to Pooley Bridge over the fells - just brilliant.
Two great pubs in the village and an outdoor public swimming pool. Really great place to stay.

The local store was warm and friendly and for a village...
The local store was warm and friendly and for a village store exceptionally well stocked. The Queen's head across the road charged £23 for two drinks then at 9pm called it quits for the evening and hurried us up to leave, cleaning around us, cashing up then setting up for breakfast. Doors slammed and bolted by 9.45pm. Woken early by dog walkers enjoying the village.

A small very quiet village.
A small very quiet village. The pub we stayed in was the only place to stay and eat as the other one is currently closed. There is an open air swimming pool but we didnt use it, as it was fully booked. Askham Hall Gardens is a beautiful place with a lovely little cafe., well worth the small £4 entry fee. Great for peace and quiet and not far to Ullswater.
