The location was ideal - close to transport links and walkable to town. The room was basic but clean enough, and what we’d expected from the very reasonable price paid, but the bed was comfy and we both slept well. All the staff we encountered were lovely and very helpful.

The host was incredibly friendly and informative.
The house was beautiful and we couldn't have asked for more.. if we'd stayed longer, there'd be no doubt that we'd have used all the facilities available to us. I actually forgot my toothbrush and there were brand new toothbrushes to use! Godsend!
We'll definitely be staying here again! Thank you, thank you, thank you 🙏❤️

Lovely market town with independent shops. Highly recommend Goldfinch bookshop for a great selection of books and gifts, lovely cafe ( sweet treats only) and staff. A real hub for the community. Also The HideOut Cafe, yummy.

A bustling English market town (the Friday market is held through the High Street). served by buses from Aldershot, Petersfield, Winchester and Basingstoke which stop almost directly outside The Swan. The mainline train station is a fair walk from the The Swan & town centre, but taxi's are on hand (business hours), if you don't fancy the walk. A good range of shops (Sainsbury's, Iceland, Co-op, charity shops, tattooist, Greggs, fancy goods, hardware store, newsagent, other pubs, live music venue 'The Lounge Bar' in the community centre, etc).
In the oldie-worldie open street town centre - much better in my opinion than the covered shopping centre's like Basingstoke -fresh air much better for people. Parking is at a premium, with car parking behind The Swan (for Patrons) or behind the town centre shops with public conveniences and a park nearby. A good place to stay if you're interested in The Bluebell Railway as Alton train station links directly to it too.
Excellent stay for a place to visit for a day out, weekend/long weekend or a holiday base for visiting other nearby attractions, with things to do if it's wet.

An interesting town with lots of history.
An interesting town with lots of history. Huge number of hostelries, and seemed to be a good range of places to eat. As is common in many towns currently, lots of vacant premises and closed shops. Still things for us to discover though so will return.
It is a lovely location and if you get to the hotel after 6pm, you get free parking until the next morning. They were very polite and accommodating to every need I had, even with Mondays being their weekly deep clean, they suggested many other places to go to if I required dinner. They also pointed out that they haven't done breakfast for a while, but Booking.com doesn't allow them to take it off. Again, they suggested the pub across the road to go to if I wanted breakfast.
We've stayed here before so it says enough that we always rebook here! It's ideally placed for where we had to visit and it has a good position in the centre of Alton. Also the car park is easy to access.
