The castle was so personal ,we could have moved in !
The castle was so personal ,we could have moved in ! The light coloured stone as apposed to grey in Normandy. Trying to have a meal was very difficult, sometimes the pizza place was open ,same with the bakery, " exceptional closing " . Staff issues still cause problems due to Covid . We would return as it's so pretty, just not in a heat wave !!

We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful 15th century building. Nathalie was the kindest host with lots of advice. We are cycling in a heatwave so the pool felt wonderful. The room was fairly cool, clean and the bed super comfy. The town itself was beautiful with an impressive castle, but most of the restaurants were closed including the one Nathalie recommended. However we found the hotel Splendid which was open and served a delicious 3 course supper in the courtyard. It’s a great base to explore the town.
Fabulous location, Nathalie is an excellent hostess, the pool was lovely, the bed was comfortable and Montreuil-Bellay is a delightful town with all the facilities close by. We had a relaxing week, popped out for amazing dinners and walks and everything you need (patisserie, supermarket, charcuterie, pharmacy) were on the doorstep. I highly recommend Maison Aubelle for families, couples, singles whether you're activity minded or just want a relaxing dose of French life.
We absolutely loved staying at Le Gite du Tresor for the weekend. The apartment is very clean and comfortable and has everything you might need and more (hairdryer,iron, ironing board, dishwasher including tablets!). Location of the apartment is perfect with a beautiful castle Montreuil-Bellay few steps away. Little gem❤️
On the way down we stop here for lunch, truly French and realized it was a Hotel and later better still on Booking.Com. So we booked to stay on the way back. The Splendid is how a remember French Hotels being, French not "International" .
Centrally located, good for sightseeing, shops. Hotel had its own car park. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast buffet was plentiful and staff had remembered that gluten free options were required.
