The location. Nothing more.

(i) the location is excellent but it is difficult to reach the hotel by car as it is at pedestrian area ( unless you pretend to go to the mayor office). (ii) the room we were staying ( deluxe family room with sea view) was sombre because the wallpaper was dark green or blue ( cannot phantom the actual color) and there were minimum lamps, the light bulb were dim. It was not cozy at all because the furniture was old, stiff and shabby. It was like they do not want you to spend too much time in the room, which is as well in the summer but not in the rainy winter day like we did ( who had the right mind to visit St Malo in the winter?😬) The hotel needs a complete refurbishment because the carpets on the hallway and every where are worn out and can use some vacuuming. (iii) breakfast is ok with hot breakfast but no omelette just scrambled and boiled eggs. Waiters are dour looking and not helpful at all. (iv) restaurant service was slow and the waiters kept delivering wrong dishes (those we did not order) and eventually gave us bills for other guests twice ( who happened to order more expensive dishes than us, so beware as your fish and chips bill can become that of sole meunière which is triple the cost, your charge for a bottle of coca cola can become that of wine. (v) no slippers and minimum amenities in the room so bring your fluffy sandals especially when visiting during winter. No water nor bottle available in the room and when we asked for a bottle of water they told us to buy at the restaurant. So we are supposed to drink from the tap using the plastic cups. They promised to send us a tap water bottle but they never did. To give the hotel credit, the bed is nice because the mattress was firm ( don't trust the bed cover though as it seems it has been there since the last century😬.

We had a fantastic stay at the Golden Tulip. The staff were so accommodating and could not do enough for us. We got engaged this weekend and the staff helped my (now) fiancé with so much of the behind the scenes preparation. Our ferry back to the channel islands was cancelled, and the staff moved mountains to enable us to work remotely in the conference room, and to stay in the suite we were in. The bar staff were also so helpful with recommendations for St Malo. It is clear everyone loves working there, which makes all the difference.

Everything about this property was amazing. This must have been the best hotel we had throughout our entire trip. Comfy, clean, staff so friendly, modern, easy access.

Spotless, great location. Staff very polite and friendly. The rooms was not massive but as expected and very clean and well designed.

Location for onwards journey the next day. Secure parking. Quiet.
