Amazing town with so much history to see and explore, wandering the cobbled streets popping into the many shops and the market was really great.
You should get a coffee, wine or beer near the harbour and watch the sun go down between the towers
So many lively bars, great restaurants, it's difficult to find a bad one even though it's not a cheap place to stay.
Definitely worth a visit

The town was very good plenty of coffee shops the aquarium was very good but not for the wife and I as we don't like crowded places also it was dark and only the lights from the large fish tanks not for us but that's the wife and I the staff there were very good help us out and showed us the way to the coffee shop

We travelled as a group (most stayed 3.5 days but we stayed on for a week). Great city, all very compact for walking around. Huge choice of restaurants and pubs. Stunning city and really good public transport, including to Ile de Re. Hotel de Ville also well worth a visit - we were lucky with tour guides who knew the history and were very informative. Visit the market for great fresh produce. Best restaurant was Les 4 Sergeants.

La Rochelle is a fabulous base to explore this region. An ancient 13th C port with a fascinating history. Fantastic classic yachts, a great martime museum and aquarium and more great restaurants than you could ever try. Lovely relaxed cafe culture in the evenings, a fantastic market on Saturdays and really friendly locals

Plenty of history attached to La Rochelle including Second World War. We visited the Maritime Museum and the Botanical Gardens although the Museum attached to them was not open. Plenty of bars, bistros and restaurants which is a real tourist attraction. The main market was very big and filled with food of all sorts on a Saturday.

The weather was very mixed.
The weather was very mixed. When it was sunny I visited Plage de la Concurrence and the nearby park and wandered around the harbour eating ice-cream. When it rained I visited the Musee Maritime and the Aquarium. I didn't have time to visit Ile de Re which is reachable by road or boat. Walked everywhere in La Rochelle. The sights are close together.

It was very clean, comfortable bed. The reception desk staff was really helpful in helping us getting around. The location is not necessary central, but it's on a fair walking distance from Aquarium, the Maritime Museum, the Old Port and towers of La Rochelle (around 1 km). I highly recommend to visit "Le France 1 - Bar de la mer" ship, nowadays converted in a floating restaurant, which is less than 300 m from the hotel.
The staff was friendly, car park was great in the hotel ground and walking to the harbour was short distance. Great location and I would stay again for sure if I ever go to La Rochelle again. I am usually a 4-5 star hotel person, but this was great and could be a 4-star if it had small fridge and bath tub in the room we stayed in.
This was the most fantastic hotel ever. The location is perfect and make sure you get a room with a balcony. Exceptionally clean and tastefully decorated. You will not be disappointed. Even though it is central it is perfectly soundproofed. Our best hotel in France by far.
The location in the old town is just perfect as a base for exploring. The hotel itself is very classy and very 5 star. I was particularly impressed with the knowledge and enthusiasm of the bar staff when it came to electing the best post-prandial brandies and ports.
