disappointed in the ski area: lots of lifts are not functioning, despite enough snow and vacation period, including the second larger cable lift. as a consequence, in case of good weather, extremely long waiting lines.

Gerardmer is in the beautiful and dense pine forest of the Vosges. It is perfect for hiking, whether it be short and easy around the lake or hard and rocky up the mountain to visit the observation tower. Water falls and isolated villages are abundant.
On the shores of the lake is a nice park and playground for young children and the San Remo Italian restaurant in the town was excellent for young and old.

Great place for nice walks in the mountain, with a lot of choices on the duration, and not too difficult. Great place in summer for enjoying a cool splash in the lake, from multiple small beaches, for free. Water temperature during our stay mid August 24 degrees C ! Popular place but not too crowdy and globally relaxed atmosphere

Small town set in ring of mountains (Vosges).
Small town set in ring of mountains (Vosges).
The town itself isn't terribly interesting.
Main attraction is its lake & proximity to ski-slopes/hiking paths further up. There's a path around the lake which is good for a run (6km) and in summer one can swim in lake.
We visited the place out-of-season for a quiet w-end.
Not sure we'd want to be there in season 'Summer/skiing period (when snow) with the madding crowd.
But Spring and Autumn must be very pleasant.

Fantastic location. In my opinion the best location in Gérardmer, being on a little hill overlooking the lake and the town centre. Checking in and out were easy as breeze, with Marie taking care of everything and on point with communication. The flat itself has everything one needs. The kitchen is well-equipped with dishwasher and washing machine. No WiFi but this clearly stated in the description and to be honest, unless one absolutely needs WiFi, it's not much of a miss given how beautiful the surroundings are.
The location of the hotel was fantastic, right on the lakeside. The view from the room was amazing. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The menu selection was good, and a vast selection of jams on offer at breakfast.
Great contact from the hotel reception letting us know how to access the room outside their normal hours. Free parking outside. Balcony with lake view although we didn't use it much.
very good price/quality
generous m2 (for France ski area), enough place to store ski clothes etc with a family of 4
