The location near the cathedral and walking areas was wonderful. We ate dinner and breakfast at the restaurant which was great. The property is older, but well maintained and comfortable.

The hotel was easy to find just off the ring road and dispite being close to the road there was little road noise during the night. The member of staff was welcoming and checkin easy as was check out. The room was fairly spacious, the bed comfortable and the shower room had everything necessary for an overnight stay. As normal in a budget hotel in France breakfast was buffet style but we were both impressed by the exceptional selection offered and the presentation was also exceptional in its layout. The staff we met the morning of our departure were friendly, cheerful and looked as if they enjoyed there work and one took the time to come and ask us if we had everything we needed and if we were satisfied with our stay.
We don't normally travel this route at this time of day but our experience might change our minds about route and stopover.
Thanks to all the staff. An exceptional stay and service

Chartres is a French medieval town in the Eure-et-Loir department, about 90 km from Paris. Home to historic 16th-century buildings, half-timber houses, narrow streets and large squares, this well preserved city will amaze you with its beauty.
The 13th-century Cathedral of Chartres is the city’s main landmark and a famous site of Christian pilgrimage. Featuring 18th-century stained-glass windows and a stunning façade with bas-relief sculptures and stone statues, this UNESCO World Heritage is one of the most important Gothic cathedrals in France.
On the back side of the Cathedral, travellers will find a Grass Labyrinth, date back to around 1200. According to the tradition, pilgrims used to go to the centre of the labyrinth in order to receive the grace of God.
The Massacre Bridge is one of the bridges crossing the Eure River, which flows right to the heart of the old part of the city. Chartres has also beautiful churches like the St. Aignan and the St. Martin-au-Val.
Chartres Train Station offers direct trains to Paris and Booking.com will help you find a hotel close to the station, in the city centre or in the nearby cities of Lucé and Mainvilliers.

The Cathedral is beautiful and worth the visit.
The Cathedral is beautiful and worth the visit. Check the days when the labyrinth is available for walking. The Museum of Vitrail gives a very good understanding of the stained glass. The museum of Beaux Arts was disappointing.
I had the plat de jour at Cafe Bleu next to the Cathedral. Excellent!

Chartres is a fascinating place with the most beautiful and unique gothic cathedral. It was the first French monument named by UNESCO on the list of world cultural heritage, It is the first cathedral rebuilt in a record time (less than 30 Years) after the fire of 1194 on the ruins of the 12th C. Romanesque cathedral. It has the largest collection of 12-13th C. stained glass under one roof in the world, and its Renaissance Choir Screen is an amazing demonstration of sculptural talents. The town itself is also full of history, beautiful buildings and excellent restaurants. The surrounding towns and country side are also worth visiting. As the president of American Friends of Chartres I highly recommend a visit to Chartres.

We stayed overnight on our journey from the Mediterranean,...
We stayed overnight on our journey from the Mediterranean, the charm of the city centre and in particular the Cathedral is a big draw. The Cathedral is undergoing extensive renovation and in particular cleaning of the interior which transforms the light now reflected by the white limestone. The bars and restaurants nearby offer first-class menus and excellent service; the only downside to dining "al fresco" is the unpleasant smell of cigarettes from other tables (less so as time goes on). Most of the centre is pedestrianised or limited to authorised traffic so the air is clean; just watch out for the electric scooters & bikes. Several timber-framed buildings are undergoing restoration, a good sign that the architecture and character of the city is being taken seriously by the Authorities. On each visit (4 so far) we always find something more to explore!

Very impressed with Chartres.
Very impressed with Chartres. Lovely old town that, for its size, has a lot of places to eat and drink. The feeling around the city is a very friendly one. And of course the highlight is the Lumiere light shows across the city headlined by the main one on the cathedral itself. Truly special.
For UK road trip travellers like myself it's a good distance (circa 4 hours) to/from Calais too making Chartres a great consideration for a stopover on the way to/from southern France and Spain.

A nice friendly town.
A nice friendly town. The cathedral is being restored and the results have created some controversy. Some people think they are "over" restoring it and so effacing all signs of its age. But the intention is, I think, to make it look exactly as it was when it was first build 100 years ago! Have a look and make your own judgement.
The Musee des Beaux Art next to the Cathedral is worth a visit. The art is neither here nor there but the building and location are charming.
There's a lovely 19th century covered market - the night we were there it was hosting a children's entertainment

Chartres is a very popular and interesting town however some places are vastly more busy. The Cathédrale Notre Dame was swamped with tourist groups most of the time we attempted to visit before at the fifth attempt did we feel it was calm enough to enter. St Pierre Church is a far more calm and peaceful place to visit. It is also further from the town centre but the walk there is interesting.
There are plentiful bistros and cafés etc and a wide range of shops plus a covered food market on a Saturday morning.
Everything of interest is within a walkable distance including the remarkable La Maison Picassiette.
The Brassiere « Le Weekend » 3, rue Du Cheval Blanc is excellent for cuisine traditionnelle française and very reasonably priced, Le Phare Saint Louis at 4 rue Maréchal de Lattre du Tassigny for delicious crêpes plus
thé Chocolaté Café for great hot chocolat and patisserie - the tarte tatin was fantastic; again all at a great price.

Clean, comfortable accommodation in a tranquil location a short walk from the centre of Chartres. Very friendly and welcoming host provided a good breakfast. This would be a good location for exploring Chartres; for us a last night in France on our way back from the Lot. We appreciated being able to leave our car in a secure location and enjoyed our walk to the Cathedral and main square for an evening meal.
Easy to get to, on site parking (8 euros, book ahead), friendly staff, comfortable rooms. 10 minutes walk into the centre of Chartres. Dog friendly. A nice place to stay which we’ve now used a few times when travelling through France and would book again.
Just what was needed to break our journey from southern France to UK. Staff were very friendly and helpful- accommodation was very clean and dog friendly . Lots of places to eat within close walking distance - will definitely use again.
