There are effectively two "sister" hotels. The bedrooms of the Montmercy are not as nice as the ones situated in the main hotel, which has all the facilities. However, this is reflected by the price and was great value for money. The room did the job. You are able to use all the facilities of the other hotel which is rather lovely and has THE most amazing view up to the walls of Carcassonne. It is literally just across the road. We loved the bar and had supper in there and played Carcassonne. The ambience was terrific and the staff went above and beyond, what great service and hospitality! We paid extra for secure parking and it was excellent.

Most visitors to Carcassonne come here for one thing: to see its fairytale, UNESCO World Heritage-listed castle sitting majestically on a hill east of the city.
Spectacularly lit at night, this Cité is a restored medieval fortress with 52 towers, 2 outer walls covering almost 2 miles, and a drawbridge providing access to a keep. Twice daily there are medieval jousting displays between the walls. This intriguing castle has enchanted so many that it has appeared in novels, films and even spawned a board game.
Some Carcassonne hotels, bars and restaurants can be found in the Cité but the majority are in the Ville Basse below. The stone Old Bridge, also lit at night, links it to the city centre over the Aude River.
Central Carcassonne also has its own sights including the fine art museum and the cathedral with its impressive stained-glass windows. But its best feature is the South of France way of life, with relaxed bars and pavement cafes, some serving the local speciality – cassoulet. Other slow-paced attractions include boat trips along the Canal du Midi and visiting villages like Minerve in the surrounding hills.
Served by national and low cost carriers, Carcassonne Airport is a mere 3 miles out of the city centre.
The castle is stunning and full of wonderful history.
The castle is stunning and full of wonderful history. I particularly liked the panoramic walk around the castle wall.
The food was limited for choice, but I stayed on a Sunday.
I would say that you are better off walking around Carcassone rather than driving as most of the attraction is the castle.
Use any extra time to visit the museums inside the castle.

Carcassone is really a beautiful part of France.
Carcassone is really a beautiful part of France. I really felt I was in France it’s buzzy yet quiet and is right next to the castles and airport. I visited a few areas around Carcassone as I was house hunting. It’s a really nice place and would definitely return.

With two cities in one, it is a great place to stay for a short break. The old walled city is great to wander around in, plenty of places to stop for a drink etc, great views from the walls. The newer (13th century) Bastide is a little bit more modern, with town centre type shops, plenty of restaurants, quite a bit of history and access to the Canal de Midi. We stayed for 4 nights, if we had stayed longer then a hire car would have enabled exploring further afield.

Loved Carcassone but had visited before.
Loved Carcassone but had visited before. The old walled city is interesting and beautiful and the town itself is lovely. We visited the castle and surroundings every day but did not venture out oif the area as we only had four nights. Our favourite restaurants were Bistro D'Alice and Agape. The latter provided an interesting and very tasty seven course menu. Its easy to walk around Carcasssone. We just love walking, eating good food and drinking good wine.

Carcassonne is a great place for a city break.
Carcassonne is a great place for a city break. You need at least two maybe three days to do both the Medieval city and Carcassonne. Bus transfers from the airport into Carcassonne are easy. A shuttle bus meets every flight and drops off at the Rail Stn, the town and the medieval city for 6 Euro per person. Transfer is 4km and takes about 20 mins. We stayed at Le Chevaliers which is situated between the two towns and whist it is an uphill walk to the medieval city it is possible with a reasonable level of fitness (10 Euro's in a taxi). The walk around the ramparts is well worth doing but requires you to be able to cope with lots of steps both up and down but the views are incredible.

A beautiful hotel with great views from the terrace, as well as a beautiful pool area. We were upgraded for free from a standard room to a junior suite overlooking the Basilica and the room was amazing; very spacious and with a huge bed, shower and bath in the bathroom and plenty of storage space. Plus the staff were very helpful, friendly and accommodating. The best place to stay in the old city.
The hotel is in a fantastic location for a quick walk to the walled old town. The staff were friendly, helpful and kind. The room was spotless and the bed comfortable. The air conditioning worked very well. The walk in shower had good water pressure. The breakfast was fresh and plentiful.
Perfect Stay in Carcasonne! Minutes walk from the gates of the old city, minutes from restaurants and convience shops. Quiet, comfortable and large! Ancient building with a modern interior. And fantastic host ready to answer any questions we had.
We’ve enjoyed our stay very much, it is clear why this hotel has such great ratings, the owner is going above and beyond in his efforts to deliver great service. We definitely recommend a stay here while visiting the old city of Carcasonne.
Good hotel just outside the castle of Carcassonne with parking in front and basic but comfortable rooms. We had a swim in the pool and enjoyed exploring the old city.
