The location is in a very small hilltop village with narrow streets so navigating to the property needs great care, although we encountered no other vehicles in the village. However, do not let this put you off as you are about to experience a perfect host in an idyllic location with magnificent views across the valley to the mountains on the other side. The owners have two pets; a dog called Rock who is very docile (my wife is wary of dogs but she allowed Rock to rest his head on her lap!). There is also a ginger cat who appears to guard the door and spends most of the time sleeping.
Our room is clean and spacious with plenty of hanging space for cloths. Facilities are en suite with a modern walk in shower and washbasin and a separate w/c.
By arrangement the host serves an evening meal outside on the terrace and whilst no choice is offered she is an excellent cook and makes use of local ingredients, including melon from her garden which was served as an appetiser together with home made bite sized pastries flavoured with tomato pesto. These appetisers were served with an aperitif. This was followed by a main course, a selection of cheeses and a dessert with plenty of wine and coffee to finish.
Breakfast is served outside on the deck, which is accessed through the host’s kitchen on the upper level of the building. Again magnificent views. Most of the breakfast items appeared regional with some home made, either by the host or from elsewhere in the village
No expectation because we were just pass-through travelers.
No expectation because we were just pass-through travelers. In fact the old city center is quite nice and they make a visible effort to make it an attractive place (office de tourisme of the region). As in many of the smaller towns in the countryside however it also shows the gentrification. Quite a lot of closed shops and small services that are closed or visibly suffering. Half a day for the town is enough. The surrounding environment however is very nice countryside, looks like great roads for cycling easy hills and also probably nice hiking.

Just what I needed after I had ridden all the way from the UK on my motorbike. It was pouring down with rain when I arrived and the staff were very friendly and helped me to securely park my motorcycle in a nice big garage just opposite the hotel. They even offered to dry my motorcycle gear. I even locked myself out of my room and they were very quick and friendly to help me. I was so tired and disoriented from riding 650 miles in one day. Thank you so much, I ate at the joining restaurant, had great beer and slept like a baby!
No-thrills decent room for a reasonable price was exactly what we set out for. Located on the edge of the old town center with rooms that are quite small but OK for 2 star hotel and refurbished in good condition. Each room has an airco.
Concierge was extremely helpful. The room was a decent size and the en suite was excellent. The secure motorcycle parking was top notch. Very good breakfast. Both the hotel and parking were easy to find and access on arrival in Belley.
