The location is wonderful being within the citadel walls and nearby parking at the underground citadel parking lot was convenient (22.80 euros per day). We had a wonderful time watching the harbor activity from our room. An elevator brings you from the citadel heights to the harbor restaurant area, which is convenient if you don't want to use the stairs. The staff was very efficient and helpful.

It's a nice cozy little city that I was happy to wind down at the end of our trip. Even though it may not have top rating beaches, I found the city makes best effort to make access easier for tourists. At the tourist info centre they gave me two brochures, one about shuttle bus to sand beach (free of charge) and another about bus that goes along the coast and stop by at cobble beaches in the north of Bastia. As we prefer cobble beaches, we took the bus (1.5 euros). Got off at the first beach option given by the tourist info staff, but this beach was small, exposed to a car street and not a nice setup at all. We walked along the street from there and came across with an old watch tower that stands next to more agreeable beach. The village had a couple of restaurants and a fresh fruit / vegetable store that has local products, so we bought figs and melon to make a picnic. The beach had a lot of seaweed but if you swim far enough, water was clean and no jelly fish (at the time of our visit at least). There are a number of beaches along the coast according to google map, so if you have time, you can explore a better one by using the bus (ran once one hour).
They also have a number of restaurants but I didn't manage to find the one I really liked there yet.

Good local bus service, also a street train available.
Good local bus service, also a street train available.
Local taxi service very good and not too expensive either.
Locals always friendly and helpful.
The airport is 15KM out of town, so allow for that AND be warned, it is a busy ferry port and mornings and at ferry landing times the main route through T11 gets very busy and can be at a standstill at times. Any journey to the airport should allow an extra 15/20 minutes just to be sure!
If hiring a car ask where to return it to, they are all different locations even at the airport. And lastly, take out the breakdown recovery insurance, at £2 per day it is well worth while.

The tourist train may look a little kitsch but really provided a good lay of the land and the english translation was very helpful.
So many wonderful places to eat and shop! Give the city at least 3 full days.

Bastia is a gorgeous village and very close to Saint Florent as well airport and a beautiful beach near the airport. We aren’t museum people but it was really very interesting in the citadel… worth a visit and free in the off season. Perhaps just a few days in Bastia would be sufficient and then head further south to explore.

City port with pretty historic center, main square, smaller port surrounded by the restaurants. Streets with the shops, cafes, good to stay for day or two. For everybody who likes the history, boats, shops, cafes and restaurants. Several public parking places (garages) are helpful, parking in the center is not easy, especially with the bigger car. Good shops with local deli.

Bastia is an interesting city. Lots to see and do.
Bastia is an interesting city. Lots to see and do. The train journey to Ajaccio is four hours, but it’s worth doing for the stunning scenery. Apart from that there isn’t much public transport in Corsica, so it’s not easy to explore the island with a vehicle.

Nice and very clean hotel close to the harbour of Bastia. We loved the sound of the waves and sea view from our balcony. We did the Cap Corse tour and were more impressed by the roughness of the west side of the peninsula than the east side.
Hotel is in a perfect locatoon to enjoy Bastia with a big plus since they have an own parking (small fee). The hotel staff is very helpfull and the room was even slightly better than expected
I liked the location and the view. The hotel is in the heart of the best part of Bastia and waking up looking at the sea is always special.
The bed was also comfortable.
