Eat at La Suite but make a reservation beforehand. The old part of town and the shops are good. it is easy to get around Alencon on foot. We visit often because it is a good stop over on our way further south

I was there to go to the cour d'assizes and travel around southern Normandie. The town was extremely walkable with delightful shops and everything you'd expect in a smallish French town. Les Deux Marguerite shares space with the Chateau des Ducs, part of which dates to the 12th century and has a lovely park. Don't forget Pedro's, the chocolate shop and tea shop where I took afternoon tea and met Pedro's wife and business partner, Huguette. Three generations of absolutely delicious chocolate. There's an impressive cathedral, the river Sarthe and La Briante, a delightful stream/brook that runs by the chateau de Ducs and Les Deux Marguerite. I really need to go back there.

This hotel is long overdue for an overhaul, room needs redecoration and updated facilities.
We have stayed here four times a year for at least 10 years as it’s so convenient for the A28. Perhaps it’s time to look for another option!

The cheaper accommodation is just that, cheap and cheerful.
The cheaper accommodation is just that, cheap and cheerful. However, the previous time I stayed in Alencon, I stayed in a very nice chateau right in the centre, at a reasonable cost. The city centre is charming/historical and there are plenty of places to eat/drink.

There was a very French enregy about the place with tree lined boulevards and pavement cafes. Numerous boulangeris and so no trouble if you are self servicing your breakfast. Plenty of restaurants to choose from and buildings of architectural interest. There was also the feeling of a university town.

A very dated hotel, room was smelling of damp and the table lamp and curtains were dirty. The hotel grounds were unkempt and in need of care. Disappointed as we have stayed a lot at this particular chain and have noticed a general decline in their standards.
On the plus side the restaurant could not be faulted food was excellent.
A stunning stay with very friendly people. The supper on the terrace was delicious and the breakfast the next morning was wonderful. We would happily stay again nect time we travel through France.
We both slept very well in quite unique surroundings.
Excellent staff very friendly and helpful especially Rafila couldn’t do enough for us looking forward to going to Alencon again soon will definitely be staying at Ibis hotel so clean and the beds are really comfortable
