I liked the location, being elevated and short walk into town, and very close to the National Art Museum. The hotel had a fresh contemporary vibe and loved the painting done by Faroe Island artist Edward Fuglo over our bed. Also appreciated the wine hour and found the lobby cozy and charming. Buffet breakfast was good though I would have loved to have some bagels with cream cheese to use with the fantastic salmon. I found the staff very helpful especially one young lady who helped us out with delivering our pizza and getting us a portable heater.

If your goal is to explore the Faroes by car, then Hoyvik is a good location. It is close to the main town - Torshavn - and has access to the roads going north. There is a good supermarket very nearby. But the area is a little soulless and lacks amenities. There are few shops, for example. The suburb feels like a dormitory for the area. On the other hand, the National Museum is very close by (and is very good museum). The town has a number of walks through parkland and wilderness areas which are attractive if like an early morning run.
