In the morning, before breakfast, I walked over the road to explore an interesting pathway. A couple of hundred metres along the track and up some stairs was THE most amazing church set into a cave about 50 mteres up in the air inside a cliff.
It is alsoa short drive from here to Los Lagos de Covadonga, I went up there early in the morning. It was breathtakingly beautiful.
Breakfast was also breathtaking. They were not sure what I wanted for breakfast so they gave me EVERYTHING! Honestly, there was ebough food for 10 or 20 people. Meat, cheese, cakes, bread, yogurt, jelly, fruit, more cake, butter, jam, cereal and really nice coffee in great big cups.
I ate a huge breakfast and didn't even make an impression on all the food that was there.
Thank you so much.
With a picturesque setting by the Sella River, Hotel Santa Cruz is 25 km from Asturia's coastline and a 2-minute walk from Cangas de Onís' famous Roman bridge. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout.

The room was very clean and comfortable, and the breakfast was very good. The hotel is close to downtown, although Cangas de Onís is small enough so that everything is within walking distance.
Historical building with lots of character and an interesting contrast of original charm and contemporary interior design.

Great location in the town. It is basic but comfortable. It is clearly an event location and the night we stayed there was a wedding and so our floor was filled with wedding guests who decided to continue the party on our floor. At 1am I asked everyone to stop.
The area is very beautiful. I was surprised that few people outside of Asterius know the history and the sacredness of the area. Visits to the basilica and the sacred cave were emotionally moving.
I would have loved to hike and spend more time above the lakes, in the mines, but I would have required winter camping gear.

The town was incredibly busy during August.
The town was incredibly busy during August. It was challenging to find parking space, and the tourist bus to the glacial lakes was fully booked. The weather was warm (high 20s celcius) which was ideal.
We enjoyed having dinner and Asturian cider at Restaurante Los Texos (ask the staff to pour the cider, don't do it yourself. It requires a specific method).
In our next visit we will go when it is less busy, and book tickets in advance for local attractions.

A really interesting area that was unexpectedly busy.
A really interesting area that was unexpectedly busy. This is a really popular spot for mainly Spanish tourism as far as I could tell.
The monastery was fantastic as were the lakes that really are worth the 9 euro bus ride to get to (the only way up aside from walking or cycling).

A cute tiny city with amazing views. 15-20 mins by bus to the famous Lagos de Covadonga (lakes). I recommend taking bus as the roads are narrow and might be difficult to drive. There are restaurants, hotels and free parking. Ideal for those who want to visit Lagos de Covadonga. Also, there is a breathtaking church in the mountains.

Location is perfect for a visit to the Covadonga Lakes. Public parking was very convenient (small parking before and slightly parking available right after Casa Aspron). The house itself (including the rooms) is very cosy, characteristic, neat and comfortable. Breakfast was wonderful and definitely more than enough for us.
