My recent trip to Cartagena, Spain, left me utterly enchanted, and I can’t recommend this gem enough! Steeped in history and brimming with charm, Cartagena offers an unforgettable experience for every traveler.
The city’s rich historical heritage is breathtaking. Walking through the ancient Roman Theater felt like stepping back in time, with its remarkably preserved architecture and stunning views. The Naval Museum was another highlight, showcasing Cartagena’s maritime legacy in an engaging and informative way.
Cartagena’s Old Town is equally captivating, with its narrow, colorful streets and lively atmosphere. The blend of historic buildings and modern touches makes it perfect for exploring on foot. The stunning promenade along the Mediterranean was a wonderful spot to relax and enjoy the sea breeze.
What truly made Cartagena special was its people. Everyone I encountered was warm and welcoming, eager to share their city’s treasures and culture. Pair this with the incredible local cuisine—fresh seafood, tapas, and traditional Murcian dishes—and it’s a feast for the senses!
Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a foodie, or someone who simply loves a beautiful seaside destination, Cartagena has something for you. I left feeling inspired and can’t wait to return. Add Cartagena to your travel list—you won’t be disappointed!

Remember that museums and places of interest are closed on Mondays. However plenty of things to see and do and a very easy, flat city, particularly the old part, to walk around. The open top tour bus well worth doing but be aware when one of the large cruise ships is in dock, it can be very busy everywhere. Restaurant staff everywhere were extremely pleasant.

Cartagena is steeped in history and many sites to see.Or if you are not interested in history there is the alternatives of either shopping or taking a boat trip around the harbour. Lots of different restaurants to choose from and at good prices. It’s well maintained and very clean. I would highly recommend this trip to friends and family.

Went on the tourist bus which was a good introduction to the city, also the harbour boat trip which we really enjoyed.
Went around the Roman ampitheatre, a definite must for anyone with an interest in history. Walked around the city walls and round loads of back streets found some lovely little places to eat and drink, to us, better prices & quality than the main street.

Port was nearby and you could have a boat trip if you wanted to.
